Joe Bonamassa Royal Albert Hall 06/05/2022

It was a great show, he really can play, 4th time I’ve seen him, he’s an incredibly talented guitar player.

This is ten years old but worth a watch

I completely agree. I was at the Royal Albert Hall when he played there in 2009 (IIRC) and I have that ripped from Blu-Ray. He's an astonishing guitar player and while he gets criticism for his voice, I think he's very good.

He’s playing his favourite guitar same as on Jools Holland. 1951 Fender Nocaster

He is a very good guitarist but I do find his songs a bit bland and boring TBH.

I like him better in Black country communion where the talent is shared around more.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Yes, front row for him. Side on for Eric Clapton. I have a few video clips too if anyone is interested and I can figure out how to post them?

His current touring band is top notch. Reese Wynams, hall of famer, Josh Smith, to quote Joe ‘the best guitarist on this stage’ and absolutely epic backing vocals.

Id have preferred if he’d played some heavier stuff off Royal Tea, but the classics were all there .

I have a couple as well, I think you would need to put them on Youtube and point at them, someone clever will know the best way.

I was half expecting him to guest with EC

Yes. I don't think thats happened since his first RAH gig? Also, watching EC closely, he played almost the same set as before Covid and due to his peripheral neuropathy in his fingers, Dom Bramhall played most of the fancy bits that he used to play eg the main guitar licks in Layla. It was disappointing TBH. He charges the same but does less. My view is that if you can no longer do it, theres no shame in retiring from live work.

During an interview with BBC Radio 2, Clapton stated:

“The only thing I’m concerned with now is being in my seventies and being able to be proficient. I mean, I’m going deaf, I’ve got tinnitus, my hands just about work.
I’m hoping that people will come along and see me just because, or maybe more than because I’m a curiosity. I know that is part of it because it’s amazing to me I’m still here"

He will always fill venues but he is certainly going steadily downhill. It was obvious from 3 years ago to now. Its a-shame but at least I've managed to see him at the height of his powers. I will always think of him as a legend.

We saw EC with Santana in Hyde Park before Covid. He was still EC.

EC's views on Covid vaccination make him a hard no for me.

What were the Joe ticket prices like?

Saw him a few weeks ago in Cardiff. Other than the ballad of John Henry I really didn’t know his stuff all that well. We honestly went because he happened to be on the night we were there and it was something to do (and first gig for a few years)

I must say that it was amazing! Absolutely blown away, obviously impressed by his guitar playing but damn he has a hell of a voice and some really good songs. I am now definitely a fan!

Not just covid, the racism is hard to see past as well.
