So, I’m having a bit of a rethink about watches. I was a serial flipper of Omega/Rolex/Panerai watches from the age of 18 to about 40. Then along came kids and the need for a bigger house, more cars etc - and coupled with the price increases - I drifted away from the Swiss watch world and spent a few years scratching the itch with micro brands - inspired initially by our host Eddie - then the likes of Sinn and Casio etc.
Anyhow I realised recently I missed a decent daily auto and have purchased a BB58 with the black dial. And it’s great. Everything I missed in the old Swiss watches, not too expensive, no putting your name on a list, and there’s just something right about it.
I’m still a lurker on various watch forums and a watch I keep returning to is the Tissot PRX - there’s something so 70’s about it. So I’ve decided to set myself a collection task over the next few months/years. One good modern take on a retro watch for every decade of my life on this planet. That means one for the very late 60’s, the 70’s, 80’s - you get the idea. I reckon I’ll say the BB58 is my late 60’s watch (I know that’s not strictly correct), the PRX would tick the 70’s box - the quartz version of course! - my GW5000 has the 80’s ticked - etc etc
I’m curious what others would purchase for each of their decades - cheap and cheerful or super expensive, it doesn’t matter - maybe we can all get some inspiration to buy some more watches
