Following on from the passport thread, I guess I'd better explore all avenues rather than write off 3 grand.
The travel agent said we could pay to change the names and "sell" the holiday at a loss rather than lose the lot.
Advice very much appreciated.

Please ignore folks. I've spoken to the holiday company and they will bump the holiday back until September at no extra charge. Absolute heroes.

Sometimes - Holiday companies surprise you.
We cancelled (due to covid travel restrictions) a stay in a mob home in Provence (2020) and had no recourse for the deposit paid.
The company (a big French chain) - gave us a 15 month credit on the deposit! Sure- they rehired the accommodation easily - but that was an easy profit.
As an aside - I bet the fec*ers at the Passport Agency and their families/friends - have no delays for their passports.
Good on them, and good luck that it all goes to plan.
Now, about that new covid super-variant due to hit the UK in September
We need to renew the wife's and both kids' passports this year, but not planning to go abroad so no panic. Even so, I'm dreading it.

Thanks all. TUI have been exceptional, we've actually re-booked for August (summer holidays), different resort but the same rating as the other, cost us an extra 400 quid which I'll need to find but whatever, that's not something I can moan about.
Apparently it's because we booked before last August last year - some sort of passport insurance saved us which was removed after then. Even so, for them to totally rearrange our holiday with 6 days notice is incredible, there's a big bunch of flowers and a couple of bottles of wine headed their way on Tuesday.
