    Cartier - good value?

Hi all - keen to get the view of those that know far more than I....

Looking to buy my wife a Cartier. Saw a Diamond Tanke Americaine (edit) small on black strap, offered at £9000... does that sound about the right sort of price?

The image is of an Americaine. You have to give us more. New, old, papers, etc? It's a bad pic.

    Good spot!

Ooops - yes my bad...it is a Francaise.... just a typo above. It does have box but no papers.. think its 3-5 years old... and yeah its a bad picture, that I just grabbed when passing.it does have a scratch on the side of it, but other than that seems in good condition. 18k white gold with diamonds

It seems to depend on how many diamonds around the dial. Is it this model?

    diamonds

No - it only has a single row of diamonds around the face.... think the one you pictured is the medium... This one is a small, hence only single layer of diamonds. Much the same price when new though, which is surprising given many more diamonds on the medium.

    It's this one... https://www.swissluxury.com/cartier/wjta0003.htm

Hopefully you can see my pics here of the actual watch... https://imgur.com/a/7as8dNq

    The above is a Francaise

    And this is an Américaine

The Francaise is a square dial and the Américaine is oblong.

    Americaine

Yes thanks. As above, I am talking about the americaine in small, with the single rows of diamonds.

Does £9kish sound about right or good value/pricey???

I don’t think this is a good purchase at all for the money. You should be able to screw down the price on a diamond encrusted women’s cartier.

I bought my then wife a tank francaise with the diamonds on each side of the dial, in yellow gold, on a bracelet. It was a stunning timepiece, and very classy imho. The americane might look a bit mis shapen on the wrist, make sure she tries it on first.
And ask for a large discount, you should get one, Cartier has a poor second hand value.

    useful info

Thanks all - I guess £27k new to (maybe sub) £9k used is a good discount - but I just dont know if it is good value. she likes the watch... but am trying to work out as it has no papers, should it be £6k rather than 9k? what do you think a 'bargain price' would be - then i can aim for that on negotiation....?

£6k to £7k is more realistic at this point. Women's second hand watches don't hold any value at all and are really hard to move on.

Thats really useful stuff - thanks very much... maybe at £6k'ish it's worth it... (and good idea re servicing for papers).

Beware of examples that have been aftermarket set, plenty around so choose wisely.

I think that all things considered, the closer to 6k you get, the happier you'll feel.
