I knew that at one time it was (theoretically at least) be possible to lose your driving license if caught riding a bike when over the drink/drive limit. It now looks like the same applies in practice for e-scooters.

I think a few have been caught out thinking something self propelled is treated the same as a pushbike. On a pushbike you can theoretically be fined for being under the influence ( hard to prove without a breathalyser reading ) but points won’t go on your driving license. If you ride like a lunatic in theory your car licence could be took from you.

Yep - the regional schemes running now all over the country all have blanket insurance, and a form of registration plate on the scooters.
You are supposed to have at least a prov license to sign up (but I see this is obviously not well policed with many youths on them all over the place here in Notts)

Yes, there is insurance included with the hire.
Section 4 road traffic act applies to motor propelled vehicles (which an e scooter fits) so you could be arrested and taken to custody for being unfit to drive without the need for a roadside breath test.
At last, now start testing them for drugs too. I support the scheme/machine but not the many idiots that abuse it.
