    Dubai purchase recommendations?

A friend is going to Dubai. She has spare money she wants to turn into 2 new watches for later resale at a profit in the UK. What should she buy, please?

(Duty & VAT will be paid, she's in no hurry to sell and the watches suggested should actually be available in Dubai.)

Dubai prices were more expensive than UK last time I was there. Can’t imagine that you could turn any profit from buying watches out there.

Also see thread titled - Disappointed - and advise your friend to buy some other Veblen goods instead

Dubai is a watch desert currently, not much chance TBH.

I can verify that there doesn’t seem to be much stock of any brand here, based only on my visits to the main shopping areas in the last couple of weeks I’ve been here, and what is available seems more expensive than in the UK even after factoring in the tax back (which is only 5% anyway).

Cigs will be about the only thing you could bring back from Dubai to turn a profit.

The Dubai Mall has just about every brand you've heard of within a short distance, so it's great for window shopping. Unfortunately, it's also suffering from exactly the same issues as every shop in the world in respect of hard to get models, so no more chance of getting a Rolex there than anywhere else.

    Comedy thread.

You know stocks are going to crash when the shoe shine boy gives you tips.

Must be the same with watches when your female friends are speculating on anything they can buy at remote airport locations.

There may be some useful arbitrage on supersized Toblerone bars.

Sorry but not even any of those when I was coming back last Friday.

They now seem to have gone for bags of "fun size" Toblerone bars. Who knew that fun had a size.
