Which watch confirms your`WIS` status?

The OP mentioned that he expected a large number of microbrands to feature in this thread, and apart from my Field Engineer I imagine this one also probably marks me out as a WIS too.

It’s my Gruppo Gamma Divemaster mark 2 reference DG-08. Another one I’m particularly taken with.

Don't own one and never have but surely the ultimate WIS watch is the MM300. I'm amazed it's not been mentioned yet.
To me, to be an expert (or geek) on a topic is to understand why one person's bog-standard is worth the extra money it costs.
The MM300 looks to most like any other Seiko diver and the brand itself suggests to those same people that that's a £~50-100 watch.
Yet those who know, know. Everyone you speak to says it's as good as there is, bang for buck, and is worth the c. £3k it costs to get one new.

Possibly one of these two. Doxa has a small but dedicated following and I've never seen another one of this model in the real world

GS seems to becoming more mainstream these days but this quartz sports / everyday wear model is a less common option than the multitude of, albeit very nice AT's OP's or Explorers out there. Again, not seen one of these on real life either

Another Dornblüth, a Newmark, and a JLC (I’m not sure these are well known to the general public at all).

Not easy to choose as having quite a few candidates from the mentioned Eberhard (with 5100 on top) to the likes like vintage King Seiko etc.
However my safe bet would be the French Yema Superman from 60s and 70s.
I think even in the watch world they are not as known or popular outside of France.
(Although it changed somewhat with the reissue models.)
The vintage ones have mesmerising blue dial and they were serious dive tools with 300m WR in the era when the Submariner was rated 200m.

Yes, very underrated. I sold mine in response to a WTB - a minter, complete with everything from new, bracelet, strap, pencil holder box, leaflet etc. the complete kit.

Anyone can own a R***x, an Omega, Breitling, or a Seiko for example, and `anyone` would probably be familiar with them, but which watch in your collection would you consider to be the one that confirms your status to be a `WIS`?
The one that is probably totally unknown to the general public should it come up in conversation?
The one which might strike up a conversation with another watch fancier should their gaze rest upon it?
The one which only another watch nerd would recognise?

Vintage stuff notwithstanding I suspect a lot of micro brands will be mentioned..

For me it'd be either my Hamilton 1975 6bb of which something like 1200 where issued or the Lip Super Nautic Ski. Ive hardly worn either the last few years.

The other would be any vintage speedmaster with a step dial or earlier. Surely only a WIS can spot the differences.

Hi, and thanks. It's a Seiko Breitz SDGA001. It uses eInk technology for the display, (similar to Kindle eReaders), which provides for great flexibility and clarity in the display. I usually have it in World Time mode as the map changes dependant on where you are in the world, (or more accurately, where you set your time zone to be), but putting it into Card mode always attracts comments when out for a pint etc. Seiko released a range of these watches with different displays, some comic character based, though sadly they've removed them from the current catalogue. They do come up on eBay from time to time.

I then realised the limits of my insight, and that a WIS would intuitively understand, just from a pic.

I don't subscribe to that theory, do you wear your grandfather's suits?

Wearing an inherited watch is still a statement of WISdom.

But a vintage Rolex is still a Rolex and therefore fails the 'brand awareness' test.

While a WIS may well wear a Rolex, wearing one doesn't mean the wearer is a WIS.
