    Amir Khan

Tweet at just before 10.30 tonight.

Just had my watch taken off me at gun point in East London, Leyton. I crossed the road with Faryal, luckily she was few steps behind me. 2 men ran to me, he asked for my watch whist having a gun pointed in my face. The main thing is we’re both safe.

EDIT: Now picked up by the media.

Lucky for those robbers that they were armed...

I wonder if they picked him out specifically knowing he was likely to be wearing something of significant value? Presumably so.

Anytime you hear about these it does seem that they’re premeditated, and that the criminals know exactly who they’re targeting and where, rather than a opportunistic robbery.

Pretty clear this is the case.

Going with a gun to someone would result in a long sentence if caught, so the risk vs reward is not going to be worth it for a ~£5-8k watch that could only be sold or traded for half of that….. 10yrs in prison potentially(or getting shot by an ARTeam) might be in someone’s realm if they are getting a £200k Mille or similar but maybe not a Sub/Datejust/Speedie etc…

He wasn't exactly hiding the fact - that said, still no right to rob anyone, I hope they catch the scum.

P.S. Lucky for him they didn't also go after his glass jaw ...

Suspect it was a really high end piece for someone to pull a gun.

    Could have been this? https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebri...-khan-22831314

It was a fully diamond encrusted rose gold franck mulller vanguard chronograph. Can't imagine that being particularly easy to move on!

Exactly why I wear my squale in London.... I know most people get on fine with nice pieces in London but its hard to predict the modus operandi of these low life scums. I'd rather not chance it tbh

I think he’s had too many blows to the head. Maybe the good taste police confiscated it ?

Awful state of affairs that you can’t wear a watch upon fear of some scum bag stealing it. Hope he is more considered in his future social media posts to avoid future targeting

We should stick up a WTB, if they're looking to sell it online we may be the only listed buyer on the whole internet

I wonder how they intend to move it on? Maybe they ship them abroad or melt them down, separate the gemstones etc.
Not the kind of watch you would find being flogged in the Crown & Anchor...

It will go to Europe and sold to high end criminals

    Putin?

Though possibly not, FM are still selling in Russia, unlike Swatch Group (I guess that's the end of Blancplain as the Russian godfather's favourite brand).

Yeah I can’t imagine it’s an easy watch to subtly move on. The risk of carrying out an armed robbery for such a distinctive piece (especially from the wrist of a celebrity where the story will gain press coverage and it’s central London so there’s plenty of incentive for the Police to get a conviction) just doesn’t add up to me. I’m guessing there must be other items of jewellery where there component parts are easier to break down and sell than a jazzy watch like that! I hope they get caught quickly.

Have you ever had your jaw tested in the ring or even outside?

Amir Khan boxed in Las Vegas, MSG and big venues in the UK. You should really show some respect rather than try to score cheap internet points.

No doubt it will end up in Europe. I suppose he will be insured, but still a nasty experience.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Same! (One fella broke is hand on my head once, that learnt him - gave me a bit of a ring as well)

Terrible thing to happen to anyone and I am glad both are unhurt. But I think it was obvious the glass jaw remark was in jest.

I don't see what his achievements have to do with whatever respect you may think he deserves. He was paid handsomely for them. I have more respect for the work he does with young boxers than for his career, for example.
The glass jaw comment is what it is. It's not insulting as he had a couple of early losses. Whether it is fully deserved is debatable but that's why it is an opinion: you don't have to share it.

Just like you don't need to have stepped into a ring to be worthy of respect, nor does it qualify you for it.

Very good news - and very surprising that they’ve made arrests.

Glad to see they got caught. I do wonder would the same amount of effort have been put into the investigation if it wasn’t someone with such a high profile? Hopefully these guys being caught will make the next generation of watch robbers think twice but somehow I doubt it.
