Joe Root resigned this morning. So who do we think will get it ? Ben stokes? My choice would be Stuart Broad.

Broad is too old, probably make a good captain, but how long can he carry on?
English test cricket is in demise, the ECB seem more interested in new formats, pushing the county games to the margins of the season.
No idea would would be a suitable replacement, never had much faith in Root, not sure who would want to take it on with the current poor form.

This is the first year that I have not bothered entering the ballot for test match tickets at Lords. I do worry about the future of test matches.
I do think an interim captain for 12-18 months and then hope that someone comes through in that time.
Certainly nobody stands out.
Of the current team - Stokes would get my vote.

The ECB are killing English Test cricket.
They are focusing on the short forms of the games as that's were they see growth and profit. However they are not investing enough in grass roots and that will be to the detriment of Test cricket - where is the next generation of test players coming from? The youngsters all want to play 20/20 and train body and mind accordingly.
Don't get me wrong, I love Tests but think the 5 day format is sadly on the way out - it's from a bygone era and I believe we will have a shorter format (perhaps 3 days + 1 spare "bad weather" day) eventually. With most grounds now being able to host day-night matches, bad light is not an issue - so getting the requisite number of overs bowled is not an issue.
Get Test cricket back in free-to-view TV - that would be a good start.
To give some balance I think the ECB are doing some good stuff for the youngsters, the All Stars and Dynamos programs seem to be very popular and widely available, and affordable.
Also the 100 is pretty accessable for young families with kids tickets at £5 for all games.
