    Panerai PAM00213 Review

Back on 2006 the watch world was gifted with what I consider a truly outstanding piece. It went under the radar even with the Paneristi at the time but time has told and here it is.

The Panerai PAM00213 features the Panerai Calibre OP XVIII with a 42 hour power reserve and movement based on the Valjoux 7753 with its 31 jewels beating at 28800 vph. Two pushers at the 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock positions and a further one at 8 o’clock control the split-seconds, or rattrapante and Chronograph function.

It somehow manages to be both dressy and sporty and the 2 sub dials with the 12 & 6 balance it out perfectly. Lume is excellent after soaking up the sun and its black dial with tachometric edge on the dial itself unlike the Daytona that displays on the bezel. The small seconds at the 9 o’clock position, and the split seconds at the 3 o’clock with COSC certification to confirm its accuracy.

The gorgeous 44 mm 1950’s Case sits 18.7mm and the dome crystal (Oh That Lovely Dome) that only features on a handful of very special models is complimented by being water resistant to 300ft courtesy of the crown lock. Fitted with a Officine Panerai folding clasp and comes with a calf-skin leather strap, but I’m sure anyone would itch to enjoy it on an aftermarket too which transforms it for any occasion.

The first ‘H’ Serial release sported a screw in bars rather than the upgraded quick release that followed on I & J serials.

When you compare the rattrapante complication to the Rolex offering of The Daytona and its popularity its easy to see why collectors just love the is complexity and rarity of this all time classic Panerai and whilst there are other rattrapante in the catalogue this one just has the ultra cool look and feel, its like an old E Type Jaguar always a pleasure to hold and admire on the wrist. The inner skeleton makes the rear as beautiful as the front with polished steel inside and out.

Enjoy the pictures and if you ever wanted a Panerai then this firmly sits on a list of most beautiful Panerai to date.

Many thanks Kerry. Lovely piece I must say, though I’m new to the Paneria world. Great photos too.

    All the best. Martyn.

Thank You, my relationship with watches and arguably latter career choices were directly related to being a 1st generation Panerai nerd.

    An enjoyable read Kerry.

Ive never had a split second chrono before but would have one at some stage.
    Cheers,

That's a fab looking thing, particularly the case. Really like the shot of the lug, pushers & crown guard

No that went into the trade years ago sadly, this is a one owner UK beauty straight back from Panerai service and all upgraded and shiny plus a original H release. Looking back I think I’ve only seen 2-3 nice ones for sale in the last 7 years

Love the domed crystal. This one on a brown corrigia strap, as said earlier a very versatile watch.

I had one a few years ago. Loved the high dome crystal but in the end decided I had too many chronographs so it was sold.

All the kind words & PM's appreciated, I always loved this piece but foolishly thought it would be easy to find one when I fancied it and working in the trade for 7 years meant I had a choice to wear anything anytime so you become complacent. I searched for 3 years solid to find the perfect example and went through 3 others plus a 212 which just didn’t hit the spot before finding this one owner UK serviced gem and it feels weird having nothing except a 1969 Sub or Speedmaster to track down. (And maybe a steel sports or two)
