Swatch Japan have posted a note on their Twitter saying they will give tickets to those arriving at the stores when they open but not to anyone queuing up beforehand. There is still a massive queue. One local has tweeted he wants to talk to people in the queue, but he can’t as they are all Chinese

Edit: they are now giving out lottery-style tickets and will make the draw before opening. Lucky ticket, you can enter.

    Swatch social media:

"Due to the unexpected and phenomenal demand, we are obliged to update the purchase limit to one watch per person until further notice. We will revert back to two watches per person as soon as possible.

The watches are not limited and will be available in selected Swatch Stores, with more opportunities to purchase in the coming weeks."

I like that they are actually making this clear about them not being some rare run of watches. It was quite obvious to some, but the eBay prices and queuing suggests quite a few thought otherwise. Hopefully this calms things a bit as the photos from across the world's Swatch shops are just crazy!

A mania is afoot, so I doubt anything Swatch say now will have much impact on those planning a night sleeping with a bit of cardboard between themselves and all the accumulated dog-piss that'll have been splashed up the side of the various shops over the years...

I shall be patient for my Legomega now, and wait until a normal dealer has some available - probably about this time next year!

Their phone batteries may well have run out so they won't have heard the bad news about only being able to snag one..!

I too shall be patient, and go for the Mercury one when it's available - I do miss having a Speedy, and honestly, the only thing that attracts me to the Speedies of the recent few decades is the look. If these plastic ones can actually work on wrist, then it would be scratching a much more expensive itch now that Speedies have gone up by about 70% on the used market from when I sold mine just a few years ago!

Live from Oxford Street; there are about 8 people queuing.

  9. #209
And another update; the queue was split and continues around the corner. Anyone who was thinking of going down tomorrow really shouldn’t bother.

Good news on Swatch posting on social media.
They could probably have helped to reduce the likelihood of scalpers further by making it clear when they’ll be available online.

I just went to the Shibuya branch, Tokyo…

It doesn’t open for another 30 mins. People queuing since last night. Stretches as far as the eye can see, in two lines either side of the building. The shop announced they only have about 100 watches, so limit is one per customer.

Not seen since Beatlemania. Decided to leave it today.

Edit: 20 mins before scheduled opening time, the shop will not open - by order of the police. The event is cancelled today.

It will be for some but not for all.

Can you imagine if Rolex declared there would be a delivery of stainless submariners arriving at a few select dealerships, and would be available for purchase.

I suspect the queues would dwarf these.

    1 per customer now apparently

That queue looks disgusting. Very happy I didn't go in the end now.

I estimate there are over 250 people outside the Carnaby street store at the moment.

    It’s absolutely bonkers!

Walk over to covent? I'd say that should be the least busy queue. That's where I was going to go.

I don’t think it will be worth it. You got a lot of local youths, pushing in… lots of people inviting their friends in the queue. Ain’t gonna happen.

Surprised people are wearing some nice watches here… invitation to be robbed!

The last time I saw anything like that was in Singapore when McDonalds were giving away limited edition Hello Kitty dolls with Happy Meals. There wasn't a child in the queue.

Don't understand how people allow this. I wouldn't allow it personally. I don't care if we all end up out of the queue, no one is reserving spaces for mates.

A friend has been outside a London store since 11.30 last night. Apparently all been told it’s one each now, not two. He’s about 90th in the queue.

The last time I went to queue outside a shop was curry's many years ago, around 5 minutes before the store opened a load of people arrived in cars and joined their mates/family members who where supposedly holding their place, never again do I want to get involved with those type of scumbags even if it is worth a grand. I will wait until they are available and order online at retail price.

Anyone thinking the Rolex, Patek & AP hype will eventually calm down is sorely mistaken. This shows how many people are looking to profiteer on the purchase of these watches and The grey dealers are happy to keep the prices inflated. So all this talk of more Rolex production, will have zero impact on the prices we are seeing today.

That's the thing - you don't know what the outcome of a confrontation will be................ until it suddenly goes wrong.

A group of (say) 4 guys - and you're standing in the way of them making a few hundred quid?

Would be pretty funny if that's the same for London, all the mania and half the queue getting a choice of pink yellow or blue ones.

Glad to see Swatch updated to 1 per person, wonder how that went down with the blokes that have been queueing since yesterday morning.

Ah well, I’m on the train to Edinburgh currently with my lad… he likes the look so I was going to buy him one and get the mercury for me.
Guess I’ll be just jumping straight back on the train home ! No danger I was camping out.

Out of curiosity, I ran a world-wide eBay search on 'MoonSwatch' (included in description). There are currently 300+ listed.

Craziest price I found was a UK auction bid for a 'Mission to Mars' (Alaska Project tribute) of £63,600.

    Someone's obviously taking the p!ss.

Of course most of those queuing will want want the same versions - the regular Moonwatch, Alaska and maybe one or two others. Most will get their second, third or other choice which won't be as popular on eBay.
