The watch in question! Although the issue of legibility doesn’t really show in this photo.
I know, I know, sacrilege many will say! I fully realise that it’s not what many would do, but I’m thinking that a hand swap on my 114200 34mm model might make it much more legible and therefore enjoyable on the wrist, assuming it’s possible?. The seconds hand and minutes hand are both very fine and easily misread in the sunlight, for example. There really isn’t even much difference in the hour and minutes hand too at times.
I don’t intend to ever move it on as my wife helped me buy it for my 40th, but being lucky enough to have a couple of other nice, but much more legible watches, I’m wondering why I don’t just ‘adjust’ the aesthetic to suit my life while I own it? I’ve always just accepted it and lived with it until now.
I suppose that I’m looking for thoughts, pros and cons and advice from those that might’ve already done similar?
Presumably Rolex would be less than enthusiastic and wouldn’t touch it for either doing the alteration or future service? I don’t want to start a big Rolex debate but sometimes this hobby is very odd when we can’t do things to the item we actually own.
I’d appreciate your thoughts.

Wonder if a set of Mercedes hands from the explorer would fit.

Apparently it does fit...
No problems, I have YachtMaster hands on one of my DateJust's.
I have the same issue with my airking-date. Beautiful little watch that I love wearing, but it's the first time I've struggled with legibility. In some lights is fine, others it's really a challenge especially with the sunburst get dial adding even more lines into the equation.
My other problem is I have a strong dislike for mercedes hands so the above wouldn't work for me either.
I think in my case I just have to live with it as can't imagine a solution that wouldn't take away from the simple class of the watch.
Dab of nail polish?

Now that’s not the worst idea!

I guess it’s not a very common problem and being 34mm limits the options.
Any suggestions for who to approach for making any changes to hands please? It would need someone fairly decent I guess, assuming that a hand set exists that could fit this model.
I’ve found a couple of web results where it’s been done with the 36mm model, similar to above, and actually works well.
Thanks

a relumer could alter the shade of lume or paint the hands to give better contrast.
I don't think Rolex would disown the watch, if it ever went for service they would insist on replacing the hands or they wouldn't touch it.
I have heard of instances when the RSC has agreed to change the hands on a watch to meet the needs of a customer who is struggling to read the dial. So it might be worth speaking with the RSC.
