Release Season 2022: Hopes and Predictions

Another bit of weekend fun hopefully.

With Watches and Wonders coming up in a few weeks, recent releases from Omega, Tissot and I'm sure other Swatch group brands soon, I think we're heading into a busy period for announcements.

I've given up hope on last year's ranger re-release but I'm pivoting to expect a Black Bay Explorer. Hopefully in 38mm. I'm no photoshopper but I mocked some images up while I was bored, using stock images from Tudor. I'd prefer a dial without gradient but as I said, I'm no photoshopper...

Anyone else want to hazard some guesses or throw in some hopes?

    Fantastic mockup!

Wonder if Tudor will ever move on from Snowflake hands.

Can’t see Tudor doing an Explorer dial like the above, I think they are looking to put some space between themselves and Rolex not clone the Rolex models.

I’d love to see a Pelagos without the words ‘Rotor Self Winding’ on the dial…. Then I could buy one!

I’m not sure I agree entirely but to be fair, if they were to do it, I think it would be in bronze, then it would be consistent with the fact that the bronze black bays have a 3,6,9 dial and that might distance them enough from an explorer.

Looking forward to seeing what comes up but I'm primarily hoping for two things from IWC. A 39mm Mark XIX ideally without date and with a tapering, quick release bracelet like those on the recent Pilot Chronograph 41mm. I'd also like to see a new Ingenieur which is a bit more true to the Genta styling. Fingers crossed.

A new Aquatimer would be good too. Marx XIX at 39mm with baton hands and the movement from the Spitfire I would be tempted.

Agreed on the Aquatimer, well overdue a makeover. A faithful 3536ti revision would be extremely tempting.

Release Season 2022: Hopes and Predictions

Bremont release was a bit meh. To be fair the recent addition of an in house movement option was a big jump.

Omega- Green dial speed master is nice, I want to like the ultra deep but will need to see it.
The AT range have lost some charm with new dials, they wear too big without the texture in the dial.

Tudor - Hope they do a Pelagos with the grey dial and bezel of the 925. Or a new ranger, will be interesting to see they have any more metas options in the line up.

Zenith - Always seem to have something I like.

GS- a decent sized diver would be great, with a decent bracelet.

Rolex - Coke GMT please on an oyster without polished links and a glidelock.

I think the only watch I'd be interested in is a Black Bay 58 GMT

    I’d buy a BB58 GMT in a heartbeat too

Although I've definitely become a no-date fan these days, a GMT has to have a date. Not sure I can think of a GMT watch that doesn't have a date?

No thanks. The BB58 is perfectly fine as Tudor have released it. Of course, if they want to add a GMT, then it has to have a date.

Oh hello, a gold Tissot PRX. And smaller too. They’ve gone a bit too far the other way with 35mm but at €375 in yellow gold PVD that could be quite entertaining, for those of us who can’t quite stretch to the Vacheron Constantin 222 re-release, or Michael Caine’s Oysterquartz.

Would like to see Tudor do more non BB things, a ranger would be good. Would like an IWC pilot update with baton hands rather than the current style.

Bb58 GMT but also new colours in the bb58 range. I've always liked the burgundy bezel on the BB so be good to see that on the 58 too. Also, upgraded clasps as per the 58 bronze across the rest of the 58 range please.

Regarding Rolex, 38mm DJ and OP lines please (although the OP41 wears ok).

Hope Omega releases a watchco style SM300 reissue…. The 2500 planet ocean is the closest reincarnation of that currently.

I'm hoping for something big from IWC. It's about time they refresh the Aquatimer and/or improve the once-great Ingenieur.

It also looks like Bremont is trying to milk that Daytona cash-cow:

It’s a quartz Speedmaster, bioceramic case (⅓ plastic, ⅔ ceramic). Looks like they may be claiming it’s already been in Space, too.

Thank you, you've cleared up the teasers. I'm assuming the pricing will be at the Omega, rather than the Swatch end of the scale.

^^ whilst not confirmed by Omega / Swatch, that’s what’s been pieced together across a few different forums based on pre-release photos & snippets of teaser vids.

As far as pricing goes, that will be interesting. There’s a quote from a GQ article about the collab that says:
“Perhaps the most intriguing thing about this partnership for you to know is that it’s highly unlikely to leave you either unimpressed or empty-handed.”

To me, that’s either talking about availability - i.e. they’ll be non-limited - or affordability (or both).

There’s a LOT of hate online, specifically from Speedmaster groups, so will be interesting....

This teaser on the Time + Tide Instagram shows what looks like multiple different coloured Speedmaster style watches. Yellow, green, pink, blue cases, etc.

Yep, looks like there’s different versions for each of the Solar System planets, plus Sun.

    Edit: + Moon & Pluto - 9 in total.

Wonder if they will discontinue the current WG YM. They would look too similar unless the prices were drastically different.

I think the Rolex release may be one utilising the parts bin to bring out a variation or two.

Maybe PM Submariner on OF? Read on here, return of the hulk is possible. Cannot see it happening, but it could as all the parts are essentially there to do it easily. Maybe it will be PM only?

In addition to the usual new DJ and DD dial variations.

Airking and/or Milgauss refresh a high possibility. Cellini relaunch / rebrand?

Addition of a RG 42mm YM would be perfect. They can then discontinue the 40mm

Anything on a jubilee strap would be good. Maybe a Tudor on the new Rolex style jubilee with the half end links. Next level!
And importantly, hopefully back in the 38/39mm range.

Seconded. Looks a tad bloated on a smaller wrist. I think the stainless steel bezel makes it wear larger too. Perhaps time for a ceramic bezel?

I agree. For my wrist 40mm is the ideal size for a Rolex sports watch. A harder wearing bezel would be a decent upgrade too

Amusing that the Revolution article got pulled - guess they jumped the gun. No more Swatch Group press-releases for them!

I missed the size, but the price was given as CH250.

Liking the Moon and Mars versions in particular, but has to be one of the most collectable sets going, even the daft colours look kinda good.

I think this is a very clever move from Swatch Group. Tie Omega's historic model to the Swatch brand, link to a younger set of buyers (and older ones that want a fun, colourful watch) and move them towards Omega ownership as they mature. I'd have one of these as a holiday watch - I'm getting shades (pun intended) of the Fortis Colours range from a few years ago - available separately and as a collection. There's something in there for all buyers: young, old, male and female.

If the cases are from recycled plastics it's another win, this time for sustainability. At the price point I'd imagine a quartz movement, perhaps System 51 with a chrono module added?

    I'm in.

Do we think that 40+ mm is here to stay for another year as the ‘norm’ for new models?
I find that watches are wearing too big and bulky these days and so I’m having to look at older pre owned models to find one that doesn’t look too OTT

$260 each for the Swatch/Speedie things apparently and there is also a full collector set available to buy also
