UKRAINE AID APPEAL (private venture by forum member)

As everyone will know the situation in Ukraine is terrible. I will not say anything on the politics but do wish to ask for any TZ-UK member assistance in doing something to help.

Some of you may know I have been quite vocal in the Bear Pit 'Russia v Ukraine' thread. My wife is Ukrainian and we have people directly in the middle of this. We have immediate family and close friends in four major cities that are under threat.

My wife's sister at the weekend used money I sent to buy supplies for the military defences positioned nearby. A soldier came to pick up the food and blankets, the man burst into tears at what she had arranged and told her that when he and others take gift donations down to the patrols a similar emotional outburst happens.

A SMALL SHOW OF SUPPORT GIVES A MORALE BOOST THAT IS IMMEASURABLE.

With the forum having a wide audience and my expectation many would be willing to chip in, I asked for permission to post this asking for donations. Eddie has kindly agreed. Any funds I receive however small will go directly to a small group of immediate family and close friends to buy and donate supplies to the defender troops and volunteers. Absolutely zero funds donated will be lost to management or other transaction fees as can often happen with charity transactions.

I MUST STRESS THAT 100% OF DONATIONS WILL GO TO THE YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN WHO ARE ON THE STREETS AWAITING WHAT MAY COME.

Clearly any donation I am seeking is supporting military action so please bear that in mind. There are many international charities taking donations, please consider these if my rather direct route is not for you.

Please PM and I will respond with my banking details. In anticipation that the inbox may become full please bear with me and I will clear as often as possible and will update here.

THE ENTIRE WORLD HAS STEPPED UP TO RIGHT WHAT HAS HAPPENED, PERHAPS TZ-UK CAN PLAY A SMALL PART. I WISH TO THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY SUPPORT YOU WISH TO GIVE.

    David.

    EDIT 1
    - For transparency another 'high-ranking' forum member has agreed to view my transaction history in/out and will verify what is happening.

    EDIT 2
    - Currently got folks out trying to locate stuff for the volunteer forces (the civilians with the yellow arm bands you'll be seeing on TV).
    - Also notice of some young children whose parents lost in the bombing, will of course be prioritising funds to get supplies to them.

    EDIT 3

    - Right now as I type this 9 young children are being moved to a safe location by a paramilitary unit - we are covering their fuel and food.
    - Got several other channels ongoing for food and essential supplies to kids - my original plan at the weekend of sourcing outdoor supplies for the military/volunteers is proving difficult as all non-food shops are now closed, even pharmacies.

    EDIT 4
    - Various orphanages, children's hospitals and kindergartens (believe it or not some are still operating) are now being approached to receive food and essential supplies.
    - Although non-food shops remain closed it looks like useful items are indeed available via some, ahem, well-connected associates.
    - Volunteer groups fabricating and erecting defensive road barriers are being fed and fuelled.

    EDIT 5
    - Be assured the money continues to go directly into Ukraine, I'm doing it in small batches spread out to maximise both the area covered and how long we can assist as who knows how long this situation will continue for. Still focussing on getting food and essentials to kids, the elderly and hospitals.

    - In addition, my son's school has arranged (with assistance from the Polish Consul General in Edinburgh) for a supply truck to go over later this week, I'll put some funds towards this too. We're putting together handout boxes of food that will feed a family of four for a week, and handout boxes of baby/infant supplies such as nappies, milk powder, food pots and suchlike.

And we're off and running, I'm humbled at the immediate support - thank you, thank you.

Please forgive if I'm not personalising my PM response - it's a cut and paste of bank details.

A great initiative David, I feel pretty powerless right now but this is a way to show support that goes straight to the front line. Bravo!

Hope it’s ok to post this here.

I would like to offer this APEKS 200m dive watch for sale with the proceeds going to this appeal. Very simply, if you would like the watch, please PM me and I will confirm that you are first (incase more than one person is interested) then donate £50 directly to GraniteQuarry and I will post the watch to you.

The watch is in good condition but has been worn (strap is unworn) so has some marks on the polished sides/crown. Bezel insert and crystal are unmarked. I have changed the battery myself a while ago but I imagine the WR is still fine for most of our activities (but mentioning for full disclosure incase you do plan to dive with it and should probably get it properly checked).

    BRIEF UPDATE

Six hours since the start and well into four figures now - you guys are amazing.

I've made the first transfer of a couple hundred across, and will continue every few days until the funds run out.

For transparency another 'high-ranking' forum member has agreed to view my transaction history in/out and will verify what is happening.

Ideally I'd post photos from the ground of the supplies physically being donated, but am extremely wary of that info being shown on an open forum. Perhaps I can share photos with the checker above to vouch for this.

Honestly I cannot thank you all enough, not just for the cash but for the kind words of support. I'm speechless how well this has gone

Happy donating without any proof or verification from a TZ Commander.

I'm sure everyone giving is doing so in good faith and won't want to put anyone over there at risk by requesting pictures are taken or shared (even privately).

I think I've spouted enough crap here over the years to be trusted - but wanted to have some verification as quite honestly the numbers coming in are a multiple of what I was expecting.

Once again, thank you all. Amazing generosity

I've been looking around the house for something to put on sale as you have done and come up blank. Offering the Timex as you have is a great gesture, so if no-one has offered to buy it, I will, but I will put £100 into the fund for it and not £50. PM on its way.

David has asked me to have a look at the incoming and outgoing amounts and I can confirm £1,500 have been received so far from the good forum members and £200 have been wired to Ukraine already.

Fantastic response from the forum, I am so proud.

Fantastic initiative from the OP and the best forum in the world doing its usual magic.

Literally lying on my scratcher here head spinning, what a day. Must be 40 of you now stepped up and we’re well over £2,000 once all is paid - not even 12 hours since I opened this thread, I genuinely am struggling to find the words to say how grateful I am.

‘Thank you’ will have to do.

Changed the thread for my Timex in SC for all funds to go to this and reduced the price. Ruggertech bought it but insisted on paying the original price for it. As ever, times of trouble remind us that good people are all around us. Thanks Mark, really generous.

Donation made and happy to trust. Please do not post photos, as not a good idea to show anything that could be used against some very brave people.

I don’t have much cash but I have got a loose Seiko 007 here that I’m happy to donate.
I haven’t worn the watch for a while but it’s on my wrist for the next two days to see what the timekeeping is like.
I’ll then put it on SC as an auction (I’ll ask Eddie if that’s ok first) as I genuinely have no idea what it’s worth. The winning bidder can then send the money direct to GQ and I’ll send the watch to the winner.

I'll give what I can, but just recovering from a shop robbery yesterday which topped off an absolutely shite start to 2022.

I'd like to offer some free battery fittings (specifically Seiko and Citizen capacitors which I've come to specialise in!) Link to my original thread below. It's already a cheap service at £30, I'll cover the costs of parts, fitting and return postage if you would kindly donate directly to GQ as per his original post.
