Is there a quartz expert or repairer on here?
The wife's Mondaine has a problem. It randomly stops.
On a quartz watch, generally, if the "winding" stem is pulled out, the watch stops. I don't know if there is a switch which disconnects the battery or if its just a mechanical brake.
When this watch stops, it can be started again by pulling out the "winding" stem and pushing it back in and jiggling it around a bit. But after some time from a few minutes to a few days it stops again. The battery was replaced but made no difference.
Am I right in thinking the switch or brake has failed? It's about 12 years old. Does it need a new movement? They are about £20.
Can anyone recommend someone who repairs quartz? Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Could it be an issue with the keyless works?
I remember seeing quartz experts and repairers recommended on here in the past, but I can't seem to find the threads.
Can anyone recommend someone please?
Can anyone help with this question please?
Two that are known on here are:
Richard Askham

Duncan

Both busy, I believe.
If a new movement is 20 quid, I’m not sure why you’re not just buying one.
For £20 I don’t think it is even worth investigating any further. New movement and good to go.
Might just need a service, I had a quartz that ran intermittently and a service sorted it out.
Cheers..

I came across a similar problem on a cheap quartz watch, swapping the movement for a new one was the only way to fix it, that’s something I do as a last resort or if the movement is cheap to replace. Without knowing what movement is fitted it’s not possible to estimate the cost of sorting this one out.
Thanks everyone. As mentioned above, Richard and Duncan are probably busy, so I found the official UK Mondaine service agent and gave them a call, just to sound out their prices.
They only charge £72 for a service, which can include a new movement, and also includes VAT and return shipping. This sounds reasonable.
As far as changing the movement myself, although I understand how to do it, I've never done it, and don't want to risk damaging the hands or dial on a first attempt. Also, I don't know enough to know if there is a problem with the "winding stem" since the fault seems to be related to how it is seated in the closed position.
In answer to Paul, its a Ronda 585.

^ Paul fixed my wife’s Mondaine late last year, think that involved a new Ronda movement.
