    All classics.

Love the Stone Roses - that whole debut album was superb ...

"3am at the border of the marsh from Okefenoke". If anyone thinks the title is long, or a bit odd, it pales into insignificance compared to the song. But that one is 70's.

Can't believe no one has mentioned the best band of the 80's: Tears for Fears. Let's go with Mad World as their best effort.
Curt and Roland are still touring. Saw them a couple of years ago at Blenhiem Palace. Have booked tickets for a tiny (200 people) gig at a local hotel in June. They are being supported by Alison Moyet. Don't want to wish my life away, but I can't wait!

Mmm - Each to their own, they weren't terrible, but certainly not top 10 best band of the 80s for me.

A few years back the company I worked for hired them to do a private gig in the US (It was a big worldwide event).

They were pretty decent live still, I would agree on that, and I was surprised how many of my international colleagues were aware of them, I always figured they were a bit of a UK only band, but clearly not (Our CEO said "Here's a band that everyone in the US thinks are American, but the cool guys know they're from the UK"! - Or words to that effect)

I got quite excited during lockdown when I found a video all about an upcoming Yazoo reunion gig, sadly I found out the video was a few years old and the events had passed. I'd definitely go and see Vince and Alf, if they gigged again.

LOGOS LIVE AT THE DOMINION - LONDON - 1982 is one of their best 80's albums for me.

Songs from the big chair was a massive hit, and quite rightly so. Its one of my guilty pleasures as its something I'll happily play in the car when I'm giving a lift to friends who don't share my love of 60's/70's,80's rock. Admittedly they were akin to wham in the respect that one guy had the talent, and the other guy rode on his coattails. Funnily enough I re-discovered their "Shout" video a couple of days ago and it bought home how low budget they were when they released the album. Duran Duran did the Caribbean, TFF did Dorset :-)

Top 10 of the 80's maybe not, but they were not that far off................ and now I'm off to hang my head in shame as a fan of the NWOBHM I can't believe that I'm defending Tears for Fears - I'll be wearing makeup and applying moisturiser next

There's way to many good songs in that era, loads have been mentioned here.

The one that always stays with me is 'Wonderful Life' by Black. Love that one.

Just imagine, three (half) siblings from Stockholm having such international success completely independent from each other: Neneh, Eagle-Eye Cherry and Titiyo - and then there are at least two professional jazz musicians in the family as well.
It was Neneh Cherry who was instrumental in getting Massive Attack their big break.

Love that Album, the 80s was such a great decade for Music. Been playing some really good stuff I had not listened too for years.

As I’ve got older I have wondered why a lot of my musical taste is stuck in the 80’s, I like music generally but keep gravitating back to the music of my youth. As time goes on (I’m in my early 50’s) I’ve come to realise it was a great decade for music in general, producing a huge library of fantastic bands, albums and singles which even my kids seem to appreciate as timeless.

I'm not a huge PSB fan, but I reckon West End Girls is one of the best songs of all time.

I think in general the majority of people tend to enjoy the music that was around when they were ten years old and into teenage years.
    Cheers,

    This.

For most people music is really important in their teens/early 20s and so it's the music they listened to then that leaves the lasting impression. It's the music they fell in love to, lost their virginity to, got drunk to, formed friendships and broke up to.

When you're 40, most people are more concerned about getting a promotion or pay rise or a bigger house or paying the mortgage or finding a new job. For most, music becomes less important.

After a long break, I started going to gigs again about 12-15 years ago, many were bands from 'my era' (the 80s, luckily), but some are new(er) bands and I love the live music experience most of the time, but I still tend to listen to music from my youth most often.

Kyrie by Mr Mister. I always thought this was one of the great anthems of the ‘80s but I seem to be in the minority on this. The intro makes a great alarm tone on your iPhone

    I'm with you on that.

The 80's produced some great songs written about the time we were living in, I wonder what music will be written over the next few years..

Agree with this but can’t see the attraction of following those same bands 20, 30 or even 40 years later when their current output is often dire.

I have to say the last three or four Madness albums have been far better than their earlier efforts. Though they may lack the foot stomping chart toppers of old

I think you wanted to say Rainbow before that, because their golden time was between 1975 and 1981.

Blackmore founded Rainbow after he left Deep Purple in 1975 but disbanded the band in 1984 to reunite with the other members of Deep Purple for Perfect Strangers.

Most gigs I go to are aging bands and they are usually terrific - though we dread the words “here are some tracks from our new album”.
Upcoming gigs for me are Gary Numan, UB40 and The Scorpions
Actually tribute bands are often a great night out - all the hits. Going to see ELO Again this week

This one also has a good selection, more genres, too, if you like a more eclectic mix.

At the risk of getting my head kicked in and banished.

I always loved 'Sledgehammer' what a fabulous creation and the video was brilliant IMHO

Anyway here's where I will get battered

I tripped over this cover by 'Harry Styles' And I have to confess I think its a superb rendition
