Price comment on folks sales posts?

Pricing Comment's on sales posts. I don’t get this? Can folk stop commenting on other peoples sale posts regarding sellers price. Not only is it bad form (send a PM) it makes no sense. As, every watch being sold is subjective a buyers buying criteria, condition, originality, servicing, patina, Provenance etc. Let the market decide if the price is to high or low. Let’s enjoy seeing people taking the time to make for sale posts.

Would agree with this, but occasionally people have been caught out buying something somewhere else, TK Max, sales, e-bay etc and listing it on SC for a mark up. I think those challenges are justified even though those still annoy some.

If people are honest and open then yes, wish them well and let the market decide.

Gotta love the people who add to someone's sales thread with a photo of their own watch !!

Don’t think there’s ever much comment unless it’s perceived as way out
Not a big problem imo and fair game if price is way too optimistic or even too low.

I sometimes comment if the price looks an absolute bargain (too cheap?) but I wouldn't comment openly if I thought the asking price was too high.

Your thread will not change behaviour. There are >3000 active member of which you are only 1. I see no issue with comments when calling out dodgy pricing (and profiteering) - for more innocent pricing errors, then I agree a PM would be nicer.

I find most comments constructive and they can help members who have less knowledge of price in terms of condition, rarity etc.

I don't think they're needed so much when someone advertises a trade for roughly twice the market value of their watch but they'd have to expect comments in that case

I believe all comments on sales other than 'You have pm' or blatant skulduggery/rule infringement should be by dm. However, saying that I was pleased when someone pointed out that I was trying to sell something too cheap a while ago, lol.

  15. #15
As below, the fluffers are equally annoying “Wow great price, great seller, amazing watch….” Likewise the storytellers “Owned one myself back in Nam/Crimea…..”

I do think there are some people who go out of their way to find the cheapest price on the net for a watch just to post “Found it cheaper here OP”

Especially when on occasion they are in such a rush to throw someone under a bus they forget import charges or the condition of the watch or even it’s not the same watch…..

This is a virtually unmoderated forum with a very broad membership. Commenting on sales threads is going to happen whether it is inappropriate behaviour or not, so unless it is something so terrible that the forum owner needs to be informed it is best to just accept and move on.

If it hasn't sold within an hour (or usually within 5 mins on here) it really isn't a "bargain". So why do people totally unconnected with the sale feel the need to tell us that a watch that hasn't sold in x amount of days is a bargain .

Whilst the watch may indeed be worth the asking price, if it was a "bargain" it usually gets snapped up by the dealers long before the average tz'er gets to see the listing.

Similarly, if you’re bumping your overpriced sh*tter day after day, you might want to ask yourself a question.

Sometimes watches on SC are just too bloody gorgeous not to pass comment on especially if accompanied by quality pics (like Tony's).

Or do the bump and delete which a few here are quite keen on.

It keeps the listing cleaner if people don’t have to read through multiple posts.

I've been guilty of that sort of bollocks a couple of times, usually because it's a watch I'd like but can't realistically afford, and I hope to tilt some other f---er even dopier than myself into buying it - in orderto save me from myself...

Aside from the look-at-me brands, there's some watches on here that truly mystify me why they never sell - even the scalpers ignore them.

Why should that mystify you? You're also not buying them.

I can't afford them; judging by the 'Incoming/New Arrival' thread there's very clearly plenty of people on this forum that can.

At the end of the day TZ is still a relatively small sized watch forum compared to some others and as I type only 49 people are looking at SC. Selling anything has to have an element of luck to it, or just a very good deal.

At present any sensibly priced Rolex Sports is likely to shift quickly as are other watches in demand. I would even include some of Eddie’s in the mix due to people not being able to complete purchases in his Sunday madness. So if they get flipped, there is a good chance of finding a buyer.

For the more obscure/specialist/military or even vintage watches finding a buyer on here is not always possible. The same failure rate also applies to WTBs, those who own the watches that are off the beaten track usually don’t want to part with them.

That’s why e-bay has become a friend that many of us would rather not know…

Back in my early years here I was something of an impulse buyer. If I spotted something that piqued my interest there was a fair possibility I’d end up buying it. Quite promiscuous in fact. More recently I’ve managed to rein in that impulsive streak. I was sorely tempted by LTF’s vintage JLC dress watch that languished on SC for ages despite several price reductions. But if I ended up buying it and wanted to shift it later, it wouldn’t be a quick flip. Likewise that Muhle Glashutte SAR looks like a great deal, though no apparent interest here. There’s a lovely Smiths Astral listed just yesterday for a great price and I hope someone buys it soon, otherwise I could be tempted.

Same, must have opened that thread a dozen times. In the end I was just too worried about the thing breaking (being a 60ish year old model) and would be so far out-of-my-depth in terms of knowing the cost of repair on a JLC of that age. But it sure seemed like a hell-of-a-lot of watch for not very much money.

I was genuinely surprised it didn't sell - I thought it was a real bargain with all of those price reductions. Black Bough tell me they'll be relisting it imminently at £1850, although I guess you'll get a warranty for peace of mind; personally I'd be happier buying it as-is and sending it to a trusted watchmaker for a cheap service - at least you'd know what had been done that way.
