Ideas - Quartz, day-date, good lume, 40mm max

    Rather specific, I know!

My father is ancient, and knackered.
He likes a watch, but now doesn’t get about quite enough to keep an auto fully wound, and forgets to hand-wind anything.

His eyes are getting worse and he likes a date on his watches. He mentioned also knowing the day, as he is starting to loose a bit of memory.

He wears a watch at night, and likes to be able to read the time whenever - day or night - with relative ease.

I have been trying to find something interesting that ticks all of these boxes but thought I would poll the crowd too.

Spotted this Bulova, but not found much else that is interesting, and not sure if lume is any good.

He has always like Seiko, but I cannot find anything I really like the look of (too much choice!)

    Other ideas welcomed!

Completely different style to your Bulova pictured above but ticks most boxes.

41mm but really more like 40mm as that's the bezel diameter. Day date, super legible and killer lime on the latest ones.

I've been through this a while back. There's really only two directions - cheap plastic digital with as few buttons as possible or modern pseudo military with really good lume. While he may want the date, things like remembering the day actually help brain function and leaning on a watch means that they will not be able to do it at all within a month or two - better to keep tickling the neurons.

Ultimately, as ability fails, having a watch that you only have to look at and it does the business at all times is a win. Get a clock with day and date so he gets reminded and can check but has to remember a bit but then go for something simple and bright - Eddie's W10 remake does the job nicely, for example, but Citizen do a big bright one too.

Mind you, the Lorus above does look the business! Don't spend too much as fine control goes too and it will take a beating against stuff.

He is ex-3 Para, so he might spit if I offer him a Marines/SBS affiliated watch :)

My FIL has this one or one very similar on a bracelet, it's never off his wrist. Looks good too.

The Hamilton Khaki mentioned above is on sale here for £276. Great watch for the money but not sure if the lume would be great:

Or with the bracelet for £317 using code Get10

I would go for this if it were me.
Fits all the criteria apart from the day.

    Yeh, seen.
They were issue when I was first in, and I never kept mine :(
    It would mostly suit.

Citizen BM8180 is also a fine option.

Luminox 1920 series field watch? Has day and date, and you can easily read the time any time during the night, even if you haven’t been outside or “charged” the lume before retiring.

I use mine for exactly the same reasons, age and eyesight. It's excellent.

    One on the right:

Yours for a £tenner into the Fundraiser.

It's a bit big at 45mm, but that's an advantage when your eyes are going!

Ha! Excellent - I cannot refuse that offer! Thanks.

    Tenner into the FR today.

My father has diminished in size somewhat in recent years, I will love to see a 45mm watch on his noodle arm now! Ha ha!!

Cool PM me with an address and I'll get it off to you. If it's a bit much on the wrist, he can always go rapper style and pop it round his neck
