    Timing machines and software

I've been thinking about setting up a very basic bench at home for doing a little watch servicing.

I can't afford a Swiss Witschi timing machine, but I know that some people use Chinese Weishi machines and I've seen some laptop based software with DIY make shift style mics.

I was just wondering what kind of cost effective equipment people might be using on here?

Chinese Weishi gets my vote, had mine for several years and its still going strong. Sometimes it struggles to pick up a clean signal from a heavy- cased watch but otherwise its fine. Also works with co- axials too.

If you’re going to do watch work you have to invest in equipment, I find the Chinese stuff is a good compromise.

Look for second- hand tools, I found the German ebay site v. helpful.

+1 - my timer cost about £100 off eBay from China. No problem with quality.

I have used Ebay.de for hard to get parts for a German motorcycle I owned. It was an easy experience, the only thing I would check is the seller ships to the UK, some dont. Also whenever I enquired “ in English “ I had a sensible response.
