I’d worry that padlock might snag on something in transit.
Hello
Does anyone have any experience of sending a pelicase through RMSD?
I send fairly expensive electrical devices back and forth for fettling and maintenance , they are well packed in cardboard boxes with bubble wrap but even if I reuse the boxes they are normally trash after 5 return trips .
Rather than continue buying cardboard I was thinking of getting some pelicases instead.
However is Royal Mail Special Delivery okay with carrying pelicases ? Anything I send goes at the highest insured level ( why I use RMSD) and would never be over the max weight even with a Pelicase involved.
If they accept them do they have any issues with them being sent padlocked?
I suspect I'll have to call them up but anyone know ?
Thanks

I’m sure there would be no issues
When I worked for RM I saw plenty - our own equipment was sent is very similar
Why not cable tie it and place it in one if the free silver bags (if it fits)
Logically, it shouldn't be an issue as a sealed cardboard box could always contain a padlocked pelicase anyway! But it could be worth asking head office in advance, as local staff often aren't that up on the technicalities of what is and isn't permitted.
Locks can always be cut/bypassed anyway so just think of them as more of a deterrent for opportunists than genuine security.
The issue with pelicases is that they're usually seen as containing expensive stuff, so having the case itself visible may make it even more of a target.
To minimise lock snagging, tape them down.
Just buy black pallet wrap, and wrap it up.
Youd want some sort of covering anyway, for the labels to stick to.
