    I'd imagine it's a pretty routine incident - large underwater vessel + 100s of metres of cable: amazing they don't get tangled-up more often.

    This sort of thing happens a lot more often than thought (or reported).

    I worked with a guy (non- RN) who was out on a short patrol on a UK nuclear attack sub, which when returning to the Clyde - came up under a fishing vessel (without sinking it) He was in the command room.

    While the Commander was barking orders to dive - my colleague (instead of standing well back and remaining quiet) - was shouting 'sod that! Surface, Surface!'

    That was the end of those trips...................

    Indeed nobody did. And nobody mentioned it you did, today. Which probably means it really isn't such a big deal, considering it wasn't headline news and sunk from the homepage quite quickly, unlike, say, the situation on Ukraine eastern border.
