I didn't use this strategy this morning and just started guessing words after the second try, but there were still too many possibilities and that could have backfired ugly. If I hadn't guessed it on the fifth, I might have had to use one more try to finalize it.Originally Posted by JonRA

Obviously this isn't possible when playing hard mode, which is why that is much more difficult.

Managed to get a German two today, which was pretty good as I barely speak a word. I tend to get fours almost every game as I’m cautious since almost missing ROBOT a while ago. First word in English is SCALE, first in German is STEIN.

A blank first line is one of the strongest tries you can make, especially if you have a good starting word. It will reduce the pool of possible solutions by more than 60%.
Don't claim this was a void, it's almost the best that can happen.

In terms of distribution, I get it in 4 guesses a lot:

Got it in 4 today, after getting nothing on line1.
I've been doing it for about 10 days now and I think you certainly do get better, the more you do it ( though the wife might disagree with that theory!).
For the 3rd day running my first two lines have given absolutely no letters in the right place or the wrong.
12th letter today before I got a yellow.
Still managed to do it by line 5.
I actually think todays was quite hard. A few friends failed entirely too. A 5 for me is quite rare and it forced an error out of me. I enjoyed it!

I try to get the vowels first, plus the common letters of r, s t.
So, for example, rouse, adieu, roast.
My first fail, albeit in German so I have an excuse. Should’ve chased the missing letter for safety.
