Thread: Claim for lost package

    Claim for lost package

I have heard Royal Mail won’t compensate for lost packages when the insured/declared value is below the actual value of the item.

Does anyone know if that applies to other carriers as well?

I sent something I sold on ebay via UPS, and the insured value is below the sale price. The package is now lost. I assume I’ will have to show evidence of the sale when making a claim and wonder if they’ willl use that as an excuse not to compensate.

    Does anyone know? Thanks!

From what I understand, they will compensate you up to the declared value.

They won't compensate you at all in my experience if it has been under declared. Also they won't do any insurance on watches, jewellery, phones etc - you'd need to go via Parcelpro or Secursus for that

Thanks. Who was your experience with please?

The item was a music accessory, so should not be excluded.

FedEx but it was for a watch so may be different in your case.

Also.recently Royal Mail RMSD refused point blank to pay for.damage they caused to a watch during transit even though it was obvious it was damaged on their watch - quite a spiteful company to deal with

That’s really useful to know. Thank you. Did they state expressly that the reason was under-insurance?
