    Wordle

Anyone else doing the daily wordle challenge? I am addicted and look forward to my daily challenge.

The whole family is doing it and it had introduced a good bit of competition between us.

I got todays wordle in 4, which is about my average. Beaten by my son today who got it in 3.

Jup doing it for the past 10 days or so! Good fun and 100% success so far - had a few at the 6th attempt, gets a bit nervy then! I am trying to keep it entertaining by going with a new random 5 worder to kick things off each day as I'm pretty sure strategically a few key words help massively to get it in 4. But this way is more fun!

Another Wordler here, been doing it for the last 11 days.
Managed them all with between 3 and 6 guesses. Today was a 3...

    Cheers,

    Adam.

Yes I'm a fan. I struggled initially as I'm colourblind and the gold looked like green until I actually got a green to compare it to. Now discovered colourblind mode which helps enormously.
Ironically the day I discovered colourblind mode is also the only day I failed to get the word so maybe I wasn't struggling so much after all.
Personally I always start with the word "AIRED." I like to get 3 vowels out the way. I'm sure there are alternatives that work better but that's my tactic and I'm sticking with it.

AUDIO is a good starter word as it has 4 vowels. It’s worth trying S as the first letter too.

Thanks for starting this thread, not seen it before and had a go a few minutes back; could see it becoming a daily event. It reminds me of the old Parker Mastermind game of the late 70's.

Never heard of this before but found it on powerlanguage website - is this what everyone is doing or are there other ones?

    Anyway, got it in 5!

Never heard of it before, I've just had a look and got today's in three. Is it the same word for everyone? I actually pressed the wrong key while having my second guess, deleted it and changed the middle vowel to a more common word... should have left it!!
Very lucky with my first attempt to get three letters in the right place.

  9. #9
    I got yesterday's and today's in 2. Most days it's 5 or 6.

  10. #10
Yes it’s the same word for everyone.

I use EARTH as my starter word, 2 vowels and 3 common letters.

Best result is 2 so far, worst 5.

I think I’ve read that ADIEU is the best starter.

I’ve played but everyone I know seems to be on 100% so the interest is starting to wane as a challenge for me and it’s starting to feel like playing for the sake of it rather than any mind work out.

Try the "hard mode" (it's in the settings upper right corner).

You could also do the German version: https://wordle.at/

Adieu has the most vowels, but the word that seemingly trumps it (in terms of eliminating the most wrong answers) is soare. Using S and R seems to be preferable to an extra vowel and a D. However, I haven't done the maths and soare is pretty esoteric.

Soare (young hawk) is also a good first word apparently

Yes, American one though. Last week "FAVOR" was an answer that annoyed a lot of British players.

Just tried hard mode. You have to use each revealed clue in subsequent guesses. I think I've been playing by these rules anyway - I can't work out why you'd waste a guess by not playing a word that couldn't be the answer.

Ah. I haven't had the need to do that yet as I've always managed to think of words that meet all the previous criteria that have been revealed.

Tried today for the first time.

    Misread the colour meanings.

Kept tapping the same correct letters in the incorrect places until my kind gave up and I ran out of goes.

3/5 on 2nd go and just got worse from there.

    Looking forward to tomorrow.

Which is what hard mode makes you do. It's not the most efficient technique though.

It's the natural thing to do of course, moving the orange ones and testing new letters on with the remaining spots. But if you try 2 different words you can test 10 letters in 2 gos. There may be value in this, perhaps depending on how successful your first attempt was.

Played it for the past four days.

First time it took until guess 5. Each subsequent game I have managed in 3.

So far I am beating Mrs gbn13, but I don’t think that will last.

It isn't the most efficient way, much harder if you have to use all clues.

    Wordle

I’d never heard of this, just tried it and got it in two, must be beginners luck because essentially, I’m an idiot! I did have to turn on the colour blind setting as well, this is a very welcome addition.

Edited to say I got the wrong end of the stick, there are no clues.

I think it is what I was trying to say, starting with my initial answer to Christian. But I fully accept that I may not have been very clear.

I played this yesterday (may have been Tuesday, the days are blurring into one) for the first and last time to see what it was all about; basically Mastermind with words. An unbelievably lucky first word guess of PRINT and the second one was the answer: POINT. I'll retire happy with that average! 😉

There's also a Wordus app which is basically Wordle that you can play whenever you want rather than just once a day.

I like the once a day play. If I could access it continuously I would get bored of it even quicker.
