    Scroll Down To Challenger Deep

I'd like to see them update this. We've learnt a lot more about the hadal zone since this was produced.

I'm constantly amazed how little has been written about the Triton 36000/2. It's an incredible machine and has completely changed the way we interact with the deep.

Thanks C, that's interesting. I wish someone would do similar for space, planets etc.

Enjoyed that. Amazing that a mammal can dive so deep but how long must that take it? Surely the lower it goes the less food is available.

My main takeaway from that was "I wonder what a Colossal Squid tastes like?"
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

What gets me is the huge pressure and how we build everything so strong to go down there yet these deep deep animals have pretty much no bones and just all squeeshy.

Maybe not my most technical post but I think you know what I’m aiming at.

That is not how the physics of the situation work at all.

    Thanks for posting this.

Love the way it scrolls and doesn't change the scale, so you get a real feeling for the depth.

The giant squid is poisonous, so you can't eat it. It has a high ammonia content - it's a totally different species to the squid that live nearer the surface."
    How very disappointing.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

I've been teaching the children the difference between poisonous and venomous.

Poisonous - leaves a bad taste.

    Venomous - likely to bite.

Would be a useful categorisation for SC posters too.

Great link, thanks! I was quite intrigued by the cookie cutter shark, and had to google pictures of victims.
