With the kind permission of our host Mr. Platts, I offer for auction this lovely PRS-17C quartz chronograph.
It has had a sheltered life but does show signs of its 9-year life to date. It is nevertheless in extremely good condition when judged from the viewpoint of a wearer rather than an investment. Several TZ stalwarts have owned or had sight of it; hopefully they will pop up at intervals between now and the auction end to endorse my opinion of the condition.
It has fitted the 12-hour bezel insert to allow a dual-timezone function, and has the 0-60 bezel insert with it. I believe it to be on its original rallye-style leather strap but stand to be corrected on this. The original guarantee card from 2012 and the instructions are with it in the original case, all in good condition.
I obtained it at vast personal expense from this forum a year or two ago; it is so handsome that I just couldn't bring myself to wear it, such was the contrast between the watch's and my beauty. The only downside that I care to mention is that you will be taking pot luck with the battery life, which is 30 months from new.
Here are the specs:
Case: 316L stainless steel with screw back and screw down crown. Finish brushed and polished. Unidirectional bezel 120 clicks.
12 hour bezel to enable displaying the time in a second time zone is optional.
Dimensions:
Diameter = 37.3mm, 43mm across including crown 44.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 12.5mm thick. Lug spacing 20mm.
Movement:- ETA 251.262 calibre, 27 jewel quartz chronograph, 30 month battery life.
W/R: 100 meters
Crystal: Sapphire with anti-reflective coating on the underside
Antimag: Anti-magnetic to 4,800 A/m
The terms of auction: Simple, you bid you win, you pay direct to the Children in Need account; be mindful that in the past there have been instances of certain retail establishments offering to match all donations made through them (Sainsburys did just this the last time I auctioned a watch for CiN, so the winning amount was automatically doubled. If any similar schemes are spotted, would the spotter be so kind as to post on here please).
I will post to any UK postal code that is not surcharged at my expense. Elsewhere we will negotiate.
The auction will end at 10pm GMT on Friday 19th November (the day of the main appeal on the BBC)
Bid by posting on this thread.
Any other questions just ask. Any comments, observations, jocularity etc. will be much appreciated especially if made at frequent intervals so that I don't have to keep bumping this.
Finally, big thanks to Gavbaz for the photos, which are available in hi-res via email if you require.
