If the program is as good as this artwork we'll be in for a treat.

Now I am sad because I cancelled my Prime subscription a few weeks ago. Grand Tour was one of the few things I watched on it.
If it isn't better than Lochdown I'll be setting fire to the Amazon depot in Dunfermline *
* not really, calm down Police Scotland.
No doubt it'll follow the usual formula
Go somewhere foreign with 3 cars on spurious pretext
Drive through nice bit of foreign country
Clarkson and May eat local delicacies, Hammond declines
Drive through vitually impassable bit of foreign country
Customise the cars ( sneaking in rude words if at all possible)
Steal bits off each others cars etc, etc

As someone that's owned and driven a number of (sometimes unreliable but) wonderfully quirky French cars over the years (Citroen 2CV, GSA, CXs, AXs, BX, Renault 12) and lusted after many more (Mehari, TA, Ami, DS, SM to name but a few), I'm really looking forward to it.
And if Jeremy's Ball Bag jacket is anything to go by it'll be the usual delightful recipe!

Looks like it will be good fun, I will be tuning in.
Just watched it.
It was enjoyable rather than brilliant. Not laugh out loud funny but a reasonable way to spend an hour or so.
Can anyone shed some light on why James had a napkin on his head so often?
I thoroughly enjoyed it and feel they have redeemed themselves after the frankly awful Lochdown episode.
The usual sillyness we have come to expect.
Piss poor. The format died a death years ago and needs burying now.
They’re all good presenters but this is embarrassingly bad.
Not as bad as Lochdown, but still dire.
It's what you do when eating ortolan. Wiki: The ortolan is served in French cuisine, typically cooked and eaten whole. Traditionally diners cover their heads with their napkin, or a towel, while eating the delicacy. The bird is so widely used that its French populations dropped dangerously low, leading to laws restricting its use in 1999. In September 2007, the French government announced its intent to enforce long-ignored laws protecting the bird.
Clarkson ate it on one of his programmes, many years ago. There was a bit of an outcry.
Lots of silly fun. I really enjoyed it.
Enjoyed that - good start to the new series.
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
I must say I thought it was absolutely terrible, I am usually a fan, but this was not good, the pure fact that there are very few decent motoring channels on tv at present makes it even more disappointing., and don't get me started on top gear, surely someone can make a decent effort, or are we all supposed to like reality tv.
I was looking forward to that.
It was poor.
Fifth Gear is making a pretty good job of it at the moment (IMO), though it's now dedicated to electric vehicles.
I'm finding it interesting having in depth reviews of a range of EVs rather than the usual 5 minute moan about range anxiety.

Really enjoyed it. Maturing well. So much better than the loud, shouty and childishly competitive TG.
Ah, I thought it was a weird young ones reference

☺️
I was amused by Hammond's comment about the comparative list of French vs Australian philosophers.

its just a cash cow now, lower production values (though that trebuchet must have cost a fair bit) and some familiar tropes of car wrecking etc.
The programs they make individually are far superior though the Hammond output is below the other two.
Wish they had featured the SM more and hardly a mention for Alpine
There was an Renault 5 Turbo, just not an Renault 5 GT Turbo :-)
Shame the CX wasn't one of those with the rotating drum speedometer & rev counter like all of mine were, and no mention of the interesting-when-you're-unaware-of-it self-centering steering.
I know it's artistic licence for the show, but it annoyed when Clarkson was claiming that the tape was playing erratically as there was croissant in the mechanism. There may well have been croissant in the mechanism, but there was no tape in the player.
At least none of the featured cars were modified or wrecked this time.
I've loved these 3 for years.
But that was truly awful, imho.
This line is more funny that these in the show.
What the others said: basically, you cannot do an 'automotive' program about France without mentioning the DS. The SM is fine, but it's still a 'sibling' of the DS. That DS was lightyears ahead of it's time. Go figure: Ford started producing the Pop in 1953, the DS was introduced two years later! Even today it's a wonderful car to look at and a wonderful car to drive.
Somehow, they lack the punch of their old programs: e.g. sailing the Channel to France was an epic show. Or the monumental episode when they tried to destroy a Toyota. Then there was India, or the Southern USA trip... On the other hand, I do think that their individual shows (on the Internet or Prime) are getting better and better. May in Japan was fantastic, Clarkson's Farm is monumental; it has put farming back in the spotlights. It appears like they develop themselves without the support of the others perfectly.
Perhaps they should call it a day - in good harmony- and keep doing what they're doing best now: make their own programs.

Was it one of their best? No. I did enjoy it and laughed out loud multiple times so a good use of time watching it.
You also have to remember that a lot of their 'best' ones were contributed to by the environment. These 'lockdown' ones are all in an environment most on this forum will be intimately familiar with (the UK) so they are going to suffer for that.
Have to say I really did enjoy this and had quite some laughs! Having travelled through France a lot in the past 20 years, the stereotypes were spot on!
Looked on Amazon for this and only found an episode where they were in Vietnam area and in boats, Was I looking for the wrong series?
Cheers.
I would propose that the Top Gear Vietnam Special was the best Top Gear episode ever. Just the range of activities, the soundtrack, the scenery and Clarkson's hatred then epiphany of motorbikes. Definitely my favourite and one I'm happy to watch again.

Thought it was very poor,no where near up to normal standards.

Just watched it… and simply… terrible. In general I like their stuff, the last few specials were good, but this was bad. Sorry.
Watched it yesterday and was quite disappointed... however the Vietnam and Patagonia TG specials were on tv yesterday and today...... so that made me forget all about it! Miss the good ol days.
