I always assumed it just meant the company was based in Geneva, but maybe it's more specific than that?

I see some watches with this Geneve on the dial. I’m sure it’s different from the Geneva Seal https://www.reisnichols.com/blog/201...r-geneva-seal/
For example I saw a Direnzo (microbrand) with Geneve on the dial and I know that has to be different from the Geneva Seal. I’ve seen various watches with this designation and am wondering if it’s some type of way to get around the official Seal?
Also Tudor uses it, but do they have the official Geneva Seal?
What’s going on here?

I always thought it was just branding, as per the dial on my Dynamic.

I have always thought it was because Geneve is French for Geneva & French is one of the languages spoken in Switzerland.
Without the accent it indicates a poorly executed redial.

Not quite...
Geneve with accent was early higher grade Movement mark for Omegas from 50ies and early sixties.
Later it indicated basic line of Omega with 6xx, 5xx and 10xx movements. Those also came in Deville and Seamaster line. And you also had Deville and Seamasters with Geneve Mark.
Geneva Seal in watches defines particular standards to the quality of the work.
