Tales from the workshop: It's not always Astons and Jags.

Just a few pics of what's currently in the workshop. This time no Jags, but another fine throwback in time: Fiat 600, Volvo 1800 ES and the slowly-but-surely resurrection of the Saab 96 (with a story).

First the Fiat. Tiny 4 cylinder, water-cooled engine (the 500 had a two cylinder air-cooled engine). A customer's car for its yearly maintenance. Nothing special - apart from the fact that we're all smitten by its looks!

Then de Volvo... restored in Poland. Well, restored... the paint was smacked on from 20 ft distance. The chassis rail for the radiator was untouched - and now rusted away. The electrics are a mess, so the owner had a new loom made (bespoke, handmade) at a specialist's shop in the Eastern part of the country. Labour intensive job and therefore not cheap!

Finally the Saab. After months of grinding, welding and smoothing-out the weld seams, the car was shipped to a paint workshop for sanding etc. After putting on a coat of epoxy, the paint shop called and withdraw their offer: too little time for this extensive job. So the car is back and we're currently looking for a painter who's willing and able to do the job. We're currently contacting a shop in Belgium(!) who did my Saab 95 a few yrs ago.

A Fiat 600 in the same colour was my sister's first car.
    Cheers,

Hope you find someone to paint the Saab soon - all that prep sounds/looks fantastic. Now it needs bringing back to its former glory!

And a white one was my aunt’s first, it was white and the doors were hinged at the back - i.e. coach doors.
