Not like this. With any injection you may get an immediate, very localised ache from the needle piercing your skin and muscle. With some of the COVID vaccinations, some people get a generalised ache in a large area of the muscle surrounding the injection site, which can develop over many hours, but usually disappearing within 24 hours.

For me, after the Pfizer booster, it took several hours before my arm started aching, and it gradually got worse until it was a bit uncomfortable, but it went away overnight.

I think the ache is the immune system reacting to the vaccine. Moving the arm around can help to alleviate the ache.

I wouldn't say I'm dreading the booster (got mine on Sunday) but I've made sure to have it when I don't need to work for a few days. The first two (OAZ) wiped me out for a few days but everyone else seemed fine with both of their jabs. Fingers crossed we don't get a bad reaction to the booster. That said, I am very grateful for being offered the protection!!

Had my Moderna Booster yesterday, double AZ from before. No side effects so far close to the 24 hour mark.

My daughter explained the aching arm is an element of the vaccine deployment. It irritates the injection site so blood continues to be sent there over a longer period of time thus slowly moving the vaccine into the bloodstream.

    Not my experience.

Even with the second AZ COVID jab, I had no ache.

For the first one, it developed the following day, but was gone by the next morning.

I've never experienced that with any other vaccination.

Nor mine, didn't have it with the previous two jabs, nor my flu jab a month ago. But definitely quite an ache after the booster last week.

Well this is annoying… one week after my booster (Moderna after AZ, no problems ) I decided for the first time in two years to go to the theatre. Got notified today via the NHS app that I was in close proximity to someone with Covid, which could only have happened in the theatre. As I got some mild cold symptoms I tested, and the lateral flow test came back positive. PCR booked for tomorrow, but it seems that the planned Christmas trip abroad to see my family (for the first time in two years) is off the table.

    Gosh, what bad luck.

At least it should be mild, if it's any consolation.

All known side effects and would much prefer this than having COVID again which I has in Dec 2020

My wife also got her booster yesterday, previously double Moderna with no side effects and the booster hasn’t had any side effects

She also didn’t get hit very hard when we had COVID either and given the risk factors she would have versus me we weee surprised

I’m hoping that the side effects go away throughout today
Serious question what’s the point of getting 3 jabs if you’re young and healthy ?

As others have said - to minimise risk to myself

I had COVID last Dec - at that point I was running half marathons every weekend and it still hit me fairly hard and really impacted my running

My mother in law also ended up on a ventilator because of COVID

The vaccines help avoid serious illness and I see this as a big reason to get them

An interesting point raised in the other thread: The booster doesn't 'act' immediately - are people being vaccinated now, for Christmas going to have a false sense of security and throw caution to the wind??

I wonder whether the different aching side-effects are due to the technique of the vaccinator, different injection volumes etc rather than the nature of the vaccine itself.

Hang on a minute - I got boosted on Sunday and since then have been participating in special-interest orgies daily where I take on the role of Caligula.

Have I jumped the gun somewhat?

I just cancelled my participation in our virtual office Christmas party. Can't be careful enough with Omicron, that thing jumps on you via video link.

Then they be bloody daft. I had my booster two weeks ago and as far as I am concerned, every person unknown to me is a stranger riddled with the virus and I keeps well away from them. I expect them to take the same attitude to me.

Having done dozens of LatFlo tests at home this year, this morning I finally got one to work!

    Tested positive.

    PCR booked for 12.30.

    That’s my Christmas ruined.

3 year old was sent home early from playgroup yesterday after their 3rd staff member tested positive. 4 of the kids already had positive LatFlos too. My daughter is having a PCR as I type.

Nightmare. I’ve got loads of work to do, but as a travelling rep, now I can’t do it.

Sorry to hear that. I tested positive 10 days ago and just finished self-isolation. Symptoms were mostly flu like for 3 days with aching muscles and loss of smell. I had my booster booked for Saturday which I’m now going to have cancel and rebook for in 28 days. Don’t know what variant I had as the PCR rest result didn’t say. Dilemma now is do I now continue socialising as normal? Meant to be going out with friends including to a couple of football matches over the coming week but not sure I want to risk catching Omnicron now.

The less time you spend in the company of other people, the better. That is an obvious fact and your family comes before friends and connexions.

Someone who works in my wife’s place of work tested positive whilst at work. The management team have closed the branch…and sent them all to other branches, possibly the most stupid idea ever.

We will be cancelling meeting up with my best man & family Sunday, along with a dinner booked tomorrow night.

All I want to be able to manage is seeing my family on Christmas Day and then my wife’s for Boxing Day. Tier 4 last year, so was just the two of us - we ate and drank like royalty but was horrible not being with them all and I won’t risk it for a couple of evenings before.

It is a PITA; I tested positive after a wedding and have 2 days to go on my isolation ... symptoms for us were very mild ... I had a worse cold about a month ago.

Hope it passes without too much drama.

My cousin had a positive LatFlo last week, but PCR was negative, same for my daughter's fiance earlier this year - You may be OK.

If you have only just had it and have isolated for 10 days you are highly unlikely to get it again. I’d crack on but I guess it’s your personal decision.

    Thanks all.

I wonder what happens if you do two positive LatFlos but the PCR is negative?

You’d have to assume that two Lfs would be more likely to be correct than one PCR.

Anyway, until my wife, kids and I get results back, we won’t know, I guess.

    Good luck all.

After my pos pcr the Covid police called me and after making sure I was isolating gave me a note of cheer and told me that I was virtually one of the X Men for 90 days and was better protected than a booster- good Xmas news.

    Got COVID!

My RT-PCR teat came back with a CT value of “”undetermined” which means it’’s automatically negative.

The staff mixed up serial numbers, were not wearing gloves when handling and left the room during the test leaving samples in the room.

It’s a joke. For 30+ years I’ve been tested for drugs and very familiar with chain of custody controls, this is not optimal.

Serious question. Is the “app” still a thing? I haven’t seen any QR code check ins for months and thought they had stopped being used. Thought track and trace was being wound down.

The app is still running and updating.
Was in M&S so must have picked up a ping from another mobile.

Thank you, daily test for us both are negative still. Cancelled social events pre Christmas.

Being able to spend the 25th with my family and 26th with hers is more important than anything social for me.

As much as I hate the gatherings, last year taught me I really do enjoy them despite the other things that go with it all.

She is back to her usual branch tomorrow. It makes no sense, apparently they are following the rules, but no management can answer why moving branches makes sense. Oh well.

    PCR test results are in.....

Wife, daughter and myself are all positive. We didn't get our 8 month old lad tested, but he has been the worst for being poorly today and yesterday, he's really really sick.

Thanks to our daughter's playgroup up the road where the 1st case appeared, they now are closed, with 5 staff and 7 kids so far tested positive.

That's our Christmas ruined. Family visits cancelled. Works drinks/dinner cancelled. Meal out with the boys cancelled. Trip for our 3 year old to meet Santa tomorrow is cancelled. Wimpole Hall Winter lights, cancelled. Christmas shopping, cancelled. Wife and my annual trip to the Eagle pub in Cambridge for mulled wine.....cancelled.

We're not even allowed out for a walk or to take kids to the park. Today was a bloody nightmare with all 4 of us feeling sick and stuck indoors. Only 9 more days to go.

    Effing covid.

    Unhappy

    Hi all

I got covid in january last year when I didn't even know what it was!, I've worked in a foundry for 42 years and already have asthma and copd, I really thought I was going to die, I coughed every few seconds for two solid weeks day and night, Ending up my chest would hardly move to breathe, It kind of siezed up but then the dozens of steroids and two courses of penicillin did their stuff and I got over it!, It left it's mark though as I couldn't climb the stairs and get to the top in one go after!

My breathing became so bad that I talked to the wife about packing in work as I was really struggling to walk the 200-300 hundred yards from the car park to the changing rooms then the same again to get to my job, As we talked about it redundancies due to covid were announced at work, I jumped in feet first and packed in late last year with a little bit of money!!

Fast forwards to about two months ago and I started feeling rough again, Was ambulanced to the hospital, The covid test came back positive but I wasn't as bad as last year, Coughing every few minutes instead of seconds, I got over it but passed it on to the wife, We've both had both jabs but not a booster, I was messaged to make an appointment for the booster but then couldn't have it until a month has passed, I'm going for it on wednesday!

It didn't affect the wife anywhere near as bad as me and although it wasn't as bad this time, The after effects have been even worse than the first time, I'm almost passing out occasionally if I exert myself and still have no taste or sense of smell!

I lost an aunt and an old friend to this awful bug and yet there's still sh1tloads of people that say it's a conspiracy and doesn't exist!

    Got COVID!

The vaccine is of course keeping these numbers lower that it would be without the vaccine but, it is simply not true that the unvaccinated are clogging up hospital beds.
And those quoting data up to July need to get the extra six mths to show how much it’s changed.
Accurate detailed government data is currently available up to end of Sept.
Plus a simple graphic from another site but taken from ONS statistics.

Once the official sources catch up, I will update you bud…

Also see later post from drmarkf with a link to the bbc data.

Thanks I was told similar by Test & Trace however As Mick and Craig have said it’s probably best to take a risk based approach. I’m going to swerve the Spurs games this weekend and next week (they might be postponed in any case). There is absolutely no chance of social distancing when travelling to games nor when you queue for pies pints and the toilet. I’ll save myself for Xmas day. Keep safe all.

Thanks for sharing, really feel for you.

Makes me angry when I hear people talking about a 'cold' when everybody should know better.

Hopefully you will recover some more.

Seconded about everyone recovering - it's spreading so fast that I expect to get it at some point, although I hope the effects will be less severe as I've had the booster.

I know at least 3 people (2 are friends on FB, one someone I know better) who believe the symptoms are not due to Covid - basically they are in denial that Covid has caused all this. I'm all for free thinking and free speech and normally argue against people who act like sheep but I don't know where they are getting these ideas from. I wonder if it's because they are easily influenced? I've tried to stay out of any discussions with them on the subject because knowing me, it will escalate and not end well. I just cannot understand their reasoning on the subject.
