My favorite author, RIP and thank you.
Sad news. Many an enjoyable hour spent reading his books....particularly the earlier ones.

Mine as well. R.I.P..
Made me fall in love with Africa and subsequently made the continent a big part of my life.
RIP Sir!
Yes RIP. The earlier books formed a great part of my reading enjoyment.
Sad to hear. I was an avid reader of his books in my youth.
RIP Wilbur.
Sad to hear, I have all of his books and as has been said on here, the earlier books were the best.
R.I.P Wilbur Smith.
Used to love his books when I was younger. He wrote some proper page turners. RIP

Nooooo. I love his stuff. Gutted to read this.
I'm also of the 'read his earlier books when younger' brigade. Really enjoyed them and just ordered a copy of 'When the Lion Feeds' for a Christmas holiday read. RIP Wilbur
I had no idea he was as old as he was.
I really enjoyed his Courtney and Ballantyne novels. And his books were always something I looked for at the airport for my holiday reading.
RIP Wilbur
That's a shame.
Such a prolific and bestselling author.
RIP Wilbur.
Cheers,
Neil.
I read all of his books but I particularly enjoyed his early ones. I was living in East Africa when I read my first Wilbur Smith novel, 'When The Lion Feeds' and I was hooked. His descriptions managed to capture the 'real bush' - the heat, the smells, the people, the animals, so well. I'm going to re read them.
RIP
Thanks for the hours of escapism Wilbur, read all the Courtnay and Egyptian books. And a few Ballantyne series. Monsoon was a particular favourite of mine. RIP
So sad to hear of his passing. I was an avid reader in my youth. The first time that I heard of a Rolex sea dweller was in one of his early novels ( the one where the main character is the captain/owner of a salvage tug ) and I have been hooked on the sea dweller idea ever since.
RIP
