    Car for a month

Friend of mine is thinking of coming back to the UK for a month with his family.

He asked what options there are in terms of having a car.

I think a lease will be too long, and rental seems quite pricey - seems like a couple of grand for anything that fits four people and luggage.

Is the only other option to buy a cheap car for the month and then sell it?

    TIA

For a hassle free month rental is the way forward

Contact a few of the hire companies explaining what you want. It’s normally significantly cheaper going to non premium outlets ie not airports etc

There are companies who offer short term leasing from a month upwards but having to provide your own insurance and a potentially cancel it to get a refund and the lack of flexibility in extending the term etc would point me back to a hire car.

Most of the bigger players now offer “deals” for long term rental how good these “deals” are who knows but I’d agree with not taking one from the airport unless they’d checked out the cost difference.

Its a shame it looks like Walter has sold that BMW 530 estate, that would have been a ideal runaround for a month.
    Cheers..

We needed a car for a month this summer, hire was coming in over £1k for a mid size (probably in part due to summer season).

In the end we did a 1 month Flexed/ Autohorn subscription. VW T-Roc was about £500. Not exciting, but easy enough and half the price of a traditional rental. May be worth them taking a look.

I also thought about that Honda Accord which I think Ian bought and was tempting!

Realistically I'm probably going to suggest he rents to avoid additional non-resident hassles.

I’m using them at the moment. Electric only but also includes free electric public charging. One monthly rolling contracts.

I pay £399 for a Renault Zoe. 3 weeks in and having it for 2 months total. Also get £50 referral codes which effectively knocks off the delivery cost.

Where will he be in the UK - might it be covered by a car-sharing scheme? Likely only viable in a small number of urban locations but could be an alternative (works for me in Berlin).
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

Thanks - that might be useful for me as well.

Good idea. He's flying into LHR so I'll do a bit of research.
