Very common issues on Freelanders and Evoques which generally see the filters blocking up and permanently damaging the pump.
Just thought I'd post this following changing the oil on my Skoda Scout Haldex gen 5 differential.
VAG (Haldex) claim the gen 5 needs oil change every 40,000 miles but as they are sealed units there is no need to change the filter. In fact there is no service filter. It uses a filter for life.
Thus what the main dealers do, just change the oil.
This is the state of my pump, filter and pump housing at 80k, the oil having been changed as per main dealer/service requirements.
After a clean.
Whatever they say (VG, Volvo, etc) get the pump removed and the filter cleaned.this is the main reason for failure. VAG should be appalled at their advice.

Plenty on YouTube.

Good advice. I have seen this mentioned on VW Golf and Transporter forums too.

Building in failure?
A conscious decision perhaps, in the knowledge that many of their cars will fail at higher miles and they get to flog another?

Hi
Like you I did some 'drilling' (Skoda Yeti Owners Club) and took the advice of Haldex Repairs to have mine done earlier this year! My photos from the Mechanic where just as 'gunged'!
Now, if needed, the 4wheel-drive will work.
Shame VW/Skoda Stealers advise as they do.

I have owned three VAG cars; never again.
What ever happened to the Volkswagen bomb proof build quality
A lot of manufacturers use the 'sealed for life' line I presume to make the maintenance costs for fleets look more attractive. Most of those cars do not see the end of the warranty and then the general public end up paying for these daft ideas. 2.0 transits are all being recalled by ford as the Cambelts are failing earlier than the 144k miles they quote . I have one at Ford having an engine changed due to failure. At least Ford stand on there problems unlike many of the other manufacturers.
Although my Gen 4 is ‘sealed for life’ and not a ‘serviceable filter’. They can still be changed out, with the parts available to buy.
Gen 5 looks like you can only clean the gauze
When I had a golf I got told by VW the 7 speed dsg gearboxes are sealed for life but when I spoke to a indi gearbox specialist they said it's a load of rubbish and the oil can and should be changed
