Show me your Anti Rolex collection of explorers

I should add the grail 36mm railmaster and the sinn 556 and then sort of be in peace

I’m not sure that any of the pretenders can take the title.

It’s such a classic design that any imitation falls short and will never satisfy the owner if they are aware of the Explorer.

Not sure that is the point, they are a fraction of the cost and are decent in their own right.

Myself i cant stand Rolex as a company, the price and hype dont match the reality of what you get.

Here's my offering - lovely thing.

It even has the Rolex style caseback.

Eddie used to sell Zeno back in the day.

If one of the fives had been a four you’d have had the 3 6 9 from the dial.

Now that you've said it, I'm so disappointed with myself for not thinking of that

    Edit:

    Fixed it

Grand Seiko SBGX343. Has an Explorer-like vibe to it. Over half the price of a current Explorer too.

Close, but no cigar! Opposite sides add to 7, so the 3 and 4 can't be adjacent, you'll have to change the 3 on that die now.

    Sorry.

My Omega Seamaster 120m, reference 2511.53.00. Cracking little quartz grab and go with the excellent Omega 1538 movement. Cost me about a tenth of what Explorer's are going for :-)

It originally came on a bracelet, but I've taken to wearing it on a black Eulit perlon :

Any my other contribution to the thread is my 1962 Bulova Surf King, lovely little 34 mm watch with an almost impossibly thin case height to the top of the glass of just 7 mm.

I've owned an equally classic Rolex design from new in 1984. At the time I chose it over an Explorer. I also own one of the first generation Everests. I'm a very satisfied owner of both.

Ignoring the fact I love my 114270, I do have a Hamilton that you may consider to be of a similar style, if you ignore it has a date window :)

The explorer went and I kept this

I probably worded that poorly … what i was driving at is if you yearn for an Explorer one of the similar watches will never be enough.

But for many those watches will be or even more so …

It might be worth contacting Andrea Tugas at Martú. I'm sure she will be accommodating if you can supply the fabric.

So many to choose from and the Rolex is really nothing special. Take the Rolex off the dial and it would sink in to oblivion IMO.

This was a nice one I had

The fit and finish on offer from GS certainly present a compelling option, especially on the secondhand market with someone else covering the depreciation.

I do love that style of Railmaster. The more modern ones just look a bit fussy to me.

It was on the watch when I bought it, and unfortunately has no indication of maker etc. On the back it is stamped "Genuine Lizard" and "23/32". Not sure what the 23/32 is all about ... I assume some sort of imperial sizing or something ? It's 17mm width at the lug, tapering down to 12mm.

    Sorry I can't be more helpful !

Lovely watches these. I've said this several times now but one day I'll get around to buying one of these to go with my SCVS003

wow some lovely things on this thread, vintage smiths especially.
as someone who's owned both 36mm and 39, i agree with others that the explorer is a great watch but hardly an untouchable classic. in particular, the font of the arabics is very dated, straight from a 90s sci fi blockbuster. in many ways i prefer the dial of the bb36

Now I have seen it, I can’t unsee it. You are correct. It’s a bit like the font used at the start of Spaceballs.
