I know there’s a lot of people here with connections to the motor trade and others with an interest in cars too. My old boss died recently, much too young. He left a wife and 2 teenage daughters who are clueless when it comes to thinning down the number of cars he had in his possession. 25 years ago, I worked in the motor trade and family and friends still see me as being the person to ask about these things but this one has me stumped.
Cutting a long story short, 17 years ago, my boss ordered a new BMW 530d. It was the same colour way as a 525d he had owned a few years before and regretted selling immensely. This 530d was going to stay with him forever. And it did. Only ever coming out on special days and for service/mot, it’s sat in a heated garage on a trickle charger ever since and has a meagre 8k on the clock.
So the question is, what would his wife reasonably expect to get for a 2004, 54 plate E60 530d SE Auto 4dr in metallic blue with cream leather. I haven’t seen it recently but I’m told it’s minty, and being 1 owner from new and only 8000 miles on the clock, it probably is?
Thanks in advance,
Steve.

I don't see that as a car for the trade but I guess some folk on a BMW forum would be able to value it pretty accurately, alternatively (long shot) https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/shop-2/faq/ or similar for a 'ball park figure'.
"Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time it's enemy action."
'Populism, the last refuge of a Tory scoundrel'.
The highest priced one on Auto Trader is £5,495 with 95k on the clock. So it should be pitched slightly higher than that if it were offered to the general public. But by the sounds of its milage and condition, it should probably be a specialised sale? The value of that I have no idea.
I would give Barney at Classic Heroes a call & see what he has to say:

Unfortunately it’s not really a collectors car - the Sport is undoubtedly the better looking and likely would create more interest. It’s a very nice, capable 17 year old car in well above average condition. However, I don’t see it as commanding a huge premium. It’s actually the sort of car that I tend to buy. My almost 9 year old Mercedes E250 Sport had only 13,000 miles when I bought it 2 years ago. At that point it was priced just the same as others of the same year with 75,000 miles.
As Number2 has said, pitch it just above the best of the rest.
Bit unfortunate he went for the diesel. Candidate for storing another 10 years and hope for a Bangle revival …
As said above, shame it's not the M-Sport model. The SE models are usually like-for-like priced lower but given the minty condition and low mileage - it should still command a decent premium. I would suggest pricing around £6750 or so and see what responses you get - you can always lower the price, if nobody bites.
I've been looking at used A6/5 series/E class for quite a few weeks now and due to the general rise in used car prices, even older generations; A6 (C6), 5 series (E60) and E-Class (W211), have started to firm up, and the market seems to be narrowing. So not a bad time to be selling a nice minty, albeit older, 5 series.
Good luck.
The problem is it's a disliked model of middle-age and in vanilla spec - I'd suggest something like Anglia Car Auctions might be the best outlet.
I'd punt at it selling somewhere £5k to £7k, but it really is an unknown quantity you just need the one right buyer.
Alternatively, get some pics up on SC here!
Pop the reg plate into Motorway.co.uk and see what you get. If it’s mint you’ll get the quoted price or possibly more if multiple buyers are interested.
I’ve often read how very low mileage on a used car is worse than average or even highish mileage. Guess this one might have been properly maintained if the owner was in the trade.
Try Andrew at Old Colonel Cars, might be right up his street https://oldcolonelcars.co.uk/
Thanks for all the info, everybody. Plenty of advice for me to pass on.
Must admit, I hadn’t thought of the likes of Mathewsons etc. I think I’ve watched all of the Bangers and Cash series.
Thanks again,
Steve.
I would try this company for a valuation (no connection)

Not sure if it’s sporty enough but try Munich Legends for a bid.
Hi Steve
A car like that is better priced by enthusiasts, and then it’s what someone is prepared to pay I reckon.
