Went for 5 days in Feb 2020 just before Covid went really global. Had a great time, armed with my camera, there's plenty to shoot and look at, very historic and all good on the eye. Fair bit of yomping round to do but the tram service is pretty easy to navigate also. I think 5 days is about the max, you've probably covered most of it by then. Food was very good too and prices quite keen. Totally enjoyed it.
Great place with lots to see. I'd go again.
Hi Paul,
I know Prague pretty well as I fly in and out of there (pre-Covid) to my factory in Southern Bohemia.
If you just want a pure city break, then Prague is as beautiful as other cities such as Berlin, Koln, Paris etc.
However if you are prepared to maybe stay a couple of days in the city then hire a car and drive due south to Bohemia, then you start to get the feel and people of the country.
Czesky Krumlov is on the tourist route, but it is a beautiful town on the river and the town buildings and architecture are like something from a Hammer horror film, all atmospheric and mysterious, its especially beautiful near christmas with quaint and original decorations. There are eccentric museums and several places of interest in this town.
Small towns such as Hluboka are serene at any time of the year, I've stayed there in a fantastic castle called Hotel Steckl and it is ridiculously low cost but high quality.
Tabor, another medieval town has a beautiful square and curious little alleys to explore with lots of small bars and salons, food and drink is great.
The hotel I regularly stay at when visiting my factory in Tabor is called The Nautilus and again is a great boutique hotel with an excellent restaurant.
Once you get out of Prague, value for money food, drink and accommodation gets better.
Hope this helps, likewise, if you want to talk more, give me a call.

All depends on what you want from your visit
I went around 18 years ago and loved it, the Communism museum is interesting as well as the large auto museum ( worth visiting just to see the 1930’s rear engined 12cylinder Auto Union race car that must have been taken from Germany after the war) The Jewish cemetery is a very moving and atmospheric location, Also the crypt where the brave men who assassinated Heydrich were trapped by an entire German Garrison and still riddled with bullet holes.
Love Prague. I have been many times. Very easy to get around the entire city on foot if you are reasonably fit. I have stayed either side of the river. Would always recommend a Praha 1 or 2 district (central) anything else might mean a tram ride or Metro, but even the public transport is excellent too. The Old Town Square where the astronomical clock and Tyn Church are located is very central, equally near the Castle, Charles bridge, Wenceslas Square, Business district, Jewish quarter are all central enough.
Black light theatres are a good experience. You must find a nice Pivo Var (beer hall), preferably a basement of arched brick work serving great pilsners and Pork with dumplings, the Charles Bridge at dawn/night is lovely. The Castle and Cathedral are impressive. I love the Televizny Vez (TV Tower) in Zizkov, a fair walk but great views of the city and a nice Cafe/bar at the top, plus you are passing through Vinorhady district which is a nice cosmopolitan residential district with a nice park. There is so much to see and do, some great eateries too. One of the best cities I have been to. I love the place. Enjoy.
Many thanks chaps for taking the time and Mrs P has booked with BA staying at the Art Deco something hotel.
Be great to hear of more bar and restaurant recommendations
Cheers again chaps

The National Technical Museum is great. And as well as the fabulous transportation hall it features exhibitions on the Measurement of Time, Astronomy, Chemistry, Mining and much more. It's the first place that I saw a Curta on display.

Beautiful place, was there briefly on business a few years ago and would love to go back to explore properly, enjoy your trip!

Went at Christmas once and wasn’t blown away. I’ve been and that’s that.
Would recommend somewhere like Dubrovnik over Prague (in the summer anyway) in a heartbeat.
I though in parts Prague was a bit trash touristy whereas Dubrovnik I didn’t really see that.
I love Prague I lived out there for a couple of years its really friendly place with lots of interesting little side streets to explore
As others have said, it's a lovely place. Perfect for just walking around and seeing what you can discover. The bars are great and their beer is my favourite so that helps.
They do Christmas well so an ideal time to visit is in the run up to that.
Can't remember much of my trip to Prague, and it's their very nice Budvar beer to blame :D
Can remember the cool clock on the main square though, that's a must see
I agree with most of what has been said above already, but just to add, it is well worth getting up early to see the Charles Bridge and Old Town Square area, as they are SO much quieter in the early morning and you actually get to enjoy the areas rather than trudge along with thousands of other tourists.
Well worth it.
Prague is such a lovely place, but the touristy areas and now VERY touristy, so it is worth finding a few of the lesser known spots and just wander around to soak it all up.
Love the trams and metro in Prague. Largely built by the Russians in the 70/80s - if you want a taste of Communist times, travel to Smíchovské Nádraží metro station and have a smooch around. You'll feel like you're in a East German 1970s time machine/spy movie! Don't miss a Socialist era mural high up in the station entrance too, with workers gathering in crops etc. If you're into this bit of Pragues history its a fascinating insight into times past.
Cafes are great in Prague - i'd recommend Slavia, theres a beautiful cafe in the entrance to Lucerna Cinema - stunning atmosphere, Cafe Imperial - beautiful tiled room, Municipal House Cafe, or Kavarna Obecni dum - go in the cafe on the left not restaurant, its a bit of a tourist trap so just get a coffee and stare at the Art Nouveau beauty. Cafe Louvre is another favourite of mine - Franz Kafka and Albert Einstein loved hanging out here. Grand Cafe Orient is located in the House of the Black Madonna - a Cubist cafe. Any of these do good beer too!

That chapel is crazy, even crazier are the old grumpy Czech ladies who shout (and fine?) if you get to close to the bones and the loud alarm goes off!
Do they still have that weird pub snack in Prague were they mix raw mince and raw egg and tomato ketchup and spread it on bread to eat ?
I haven't been for a few years but the rooftop bar at the hotel U Prince has a great view and is directly opposite the clock tower in the old town square. If it's sunny it's a great place to watch the clock while wrapped up warm with a beverage.
It's often not that well frequented as people stay in the shadows of the square and don't realise that it is there
If I was only staying in the city a few days I would be tempted to book a room there too
Normally I say for a week in pension b35
