Buying a watch from a private German seller

I’m considering buying a watch off Chrono24 from a private seller based in Germany. I’m conversing in pidgin German with him. The seller has asked me whether there are any special procedures like customs forms etc. that he will need to complete to ship to the UK. Any advice from those in the know? How to say it in German would be an added bonus! Thank you.

Yes, he will have to complete a CN23 customs form stating the contents and value etc of the parcel. When he prints a shipping label from the courier website (for example DHL in this case) the customs form will pop up automatically and can be completed online. Bear in mind that you will be paying VAT (and some fees) based on the value stated on the customs form, so you have to add that to price you agreed with the seller. Hope this helps.

Well it's rectangular. Currently showing as reserved now on C24 unfortunately. If it falls through & I get to buy it I'll post a photo.

Germany is the only country that I have had bad watch trade experiences. One watch purchased and lost en-route to me - apparently never left Germany. A second watch purchased and never sent by the seller - loads of excuses and delays, but no watch. PayPal refused my claim. The third, I sold to a German buyer and he never rec’d it. “Royal Mail Int Signed For” had a squiggle from the local delivery end but the watch never appeared.
That was all at least 10 years ago and lesson learned.

Certina Certiday. New old stock seventies cool. Received today. My first purchase off Chrono24 and it went very smoothly. It’s quite nice conversing in the seller’s language. I didn’t ask him whether he spoke English.

Superb watch. There is something about watches from the seventies. It might have been the decade that taste forgot but I think that watches are the exception that proves the rule.

    Good grief! That's thorough.

What’s the advantage in doing that?
Is crystal in any danger of imploding and can’t bracelet links grind together as vacuum applied?

    On import, yes.

No, it's not fair or right.

Yes, the government can do anything they want.

As a tax on spending it's right.

I disagree but this is not the subforum to discuss political issues.

Yes, another Brexit benefit. I’m expecting a VAT bill & customs/admin fees in due course.

I checked out the numbers on the back of this watch & it is dated 1970. Not bad for a 50+ year old watch. I’m always a bit nervous buying new old stock like this. Is it something that was bought new & was then returned early on because of an issue? The seller said that everything worked & that it kept good time, & so it has proved to be so far. Happy days.
