A question for Mazda owners with sat nav

I have a 2014 Mazda 3 Sport Nav, and have paired my iPhone with the the car’s communication system such that I can make and receive calls and stream music. However, I can't get the phone's Google maps audio to play over the car's speakers for love nor money. (I know I shouldn't need to but the car's own navigation system has some quirks and sometimes I prefer to use Google).

Anyone else had this problem and ascertained how to resolve it?

    TIA!

I presume you've checked the volume setting on your mobile for that function and turned it up? I'm only asking because I've fallen foul of that before, all be it in a different car.

Does your car have Apple Car Play?

If not, I don’t think you will be able to do it. Pre Car Play (and Google Play), music and phone calls was all you could do.

Your car may be a little too early.

    Yes, it's definitely not that.

Damn - that wasn't the answer I was hoping for (no, I don't have Apple Car Play).

Are you sure that it isn't a setting on you phone or app, have you tried it in a different car? mine did the same thing in our van, it was a tick box in Google maps.

I think I've checked everything in the app itself, but will have another look.

Edit: could it be "play as Bluetooth phone call" that needs enabling?

I had the same issue and it was Bluetooth related.

Should be but then you have to have your car audio set to Bluetooth which means you cant listen to the radio.

I have the satnav noise coming out of my phone loudspeaker for this reason.

Blimey - clearly not an isolated issue, then... looks like a matter of choosing the least inconvenient option

Not ideal but is there an AUX input socket? It's what I use on my Mazda 6 for music and maps, with Bluetooth for calls. It is a 2009 model without intergrated sat nav though.

I guess that could be a workaround, if indeed it's possible. Presumably it would come at the expense of hearing any other audio, though.

Does the audio from any other nav app work? Apple maps, Waze etc……

I can play music through the phone or radio from the Mazda system at the same time, and the maps app overrides these when it gives instructions. As I say, not ideal.

I don't often use google maps because I have a Tom Tom.

Good question, and something I'll check.

I leased a Mazda 3 from 2016-19 and within the last two months of ownership they offered me a discounted software upgrade to support Apple CarPlay so it can be done. The offer was for about £150 if I remember rightly.

Whether the upgrade is worth doing now, at full price, is up to you but it may still be worth contacting your main dealer to see what’s involved.

We had the same issue with my wife’s 2015 Micra. iPhone plugged in via usb, no sound with Apple maps.
Managed to make it work via the audio settings in the Apple maps app by selecting “mycar” in the settings.
Weirdly it now comes up as a phone call on the car stereo display when the sat nav speaks….but more importantly music can be played at the same time with the nav interrupting playback each time.
    I hope this helps…..

That's interesting, thank you... suggests that the change I made within the Google Maps settings (referred to above) might do the trick!

Well, I can happily report that it did the trick. Hopefully useful for others too.

Cool Tony. Glad it got sorted. I would have said same too.
