    Considering a Seiko cull

I seem to have developed a bit of a Seiko diver centric collection.
I feel it's maybe time to consolidate down to a more manageable number of watches and to maybe add something a bit more special.

    Currently I have

    007k
    Arnie reissue
    Spb053
    Monster G1 black
    Monster G2 orange
    Monster G3 Jade
    Spork
    Sumo blue.

Ideally im thinking of letting 4 go and I'm thinking the low hanging fruit is 2 of the monsters.

Any suggestions and reasoning as to where the hive mind sees this cull going and what should stay and go?

Definitely keep the spork, almost impossible to replace compared to the others if you have sellers remorse.

Confirmation of my thoughts about the spork......In my mind I do see that staying put.

I'm in the same boat, although I've narrowed down to selling my gen 1 monsters and the SPORK - Everytime I look they've gone up in value, it's a no brainer for me at this point.
There's a nutter in France with one up for sale at 2500 euro. I'd be content with a third of that. Lol

I have a similar number of Seiko but hope never to cull, SKX007K/J, 009J, both first Gen Monsters, Tuna 007, 7548, 6306

THE Monster is first Gen, so I would let the 2nd Gen orange go, and the Sumo, and TBH the 62MAS.

Agree the Spork is only replaceable at great cost, and I wouldn’t lose the SKX779

The Arnie reissue would depend. If you had another quartz or ana-digital, then maybe that. Im not familiar with the Jade Monster, but having looked it up, I rather like the dial colour.

Is your first Gen Monster on the bracelet? Mine wasn’t for years, but now is and had been transformed.

If you do decide to sell the Spork (and you’d be mad to) let me know. I’m down to my last eight 😂

I've had probably a couple of dozen Seiko divers, the only ones still hanging around are a gen 1 OM and an SKX009J. If I'm honest, it's sentimentality keeping them around. I love them both dearly but neither get a lot of use or even admiration.

So, in answer to your question, sell them all! I'll have the gen 1 BM.

I'd be keeping the spork and Gen 1 monster, everything else could go.

I'm kind of in a similar situation, but it's a lot easier to say what you think of other people's collections than your own.

Good grief, that's nothing. :-) Keep them all.

I won't say how many Seikos I have in my collection but it's.... well... way, way, way, more than that.

    I think that In my mind I'm working towards a 3 -4 + a G type collection as I don't tend to rotate what I have.

Btw what's listed above is only the Seiko diver part of what I have.

I’d did similar recently and cleared out a bunch of mine to cover the cost of a Damasko. Haven’t looked back, I’m now left with a modded skx007, gen 2 monster and a black series turtle.

All three monsters and the 007k for me.Maybe even the Arnie.

Wouldn't touch the Spork or the Sumo.

Interesting..are you saying keep the sumo/spork and let the rest go?

I imagined most would be saying the 007 should stay it being a bit of an iconic diver.

My recently purchased SPB187 aka MM200 will have to go having
    others I wear most.

I don't rate the 007 personally, much prefer the SRP777.

I had a few Seiko's at one point inc SRP777, MM200, 2x MM300. Sold the lot and kept the MM200.

I’d be moving the gen 2 monster as it’s not a gen 1 , the sumo as the bracelet end fit drove me nuts and the arnie .

What do sporks fetch now ?

Ive solved the Sumo issue...its on a crafter blue.

Sporks seem all over the place seen them for sale from 600 up to 2k...what they actually sell for?

As I've already said, I'd be against selling anything from that lot. ;-)

In particular, I like the idea of having a representative from each generation and movement of Monsters.

I have an idea, a dream, of building up a collection of one of each and every Monster model. Even just taking the Gen 1 Monsters into account that would be very hard and very expensive work.

Some of the special/limited edition Monsters go for er... monster money. Many of them just aren't seen any more: I presume the owners are either collectors who don't want to sell them or people who have no idea how rare they are and leave them in a drawer.

I’d say from £500 rough to about £1000 mint.

I've now committed to buy another watch so my cull has begun.

First under the bus is the jade monster so I have resurrected an earlier SC ad.

My thoughts are that another monster will get chopped and also the Sumo.

  27. #27
I would keep the Spork and maybe the Monster.
    Let the rest go.
I did the same about 6 years ago .
I had all the usual suspects, never had a Spork or the Sumo.
I had original Arnie ,Sawtooths, frankenmonsters ,some nice Citizens Orca ,ecozilla Autozilla ,Solarzilla etc
The 2 I regret selling most were my Caesars black and Yellow ,should have hung on to them, but I did get good money for them.
Moved on th top end watches now ,
    More money.
    Crazy hobby.

Tough one but honostly you should decide for yourself. Sell the two monsters, then next sell the one you either wear the least. Or just have a look at the collection then. Having to decide on just the “next one” is easier than coming up with a third one now. One step at a time.

Still ongoing, the skx007 was trimmed away yesterday to a colleague at work.

I'm definitely moving in the right direction now with 2 out and only one in this year to date.

And another away 2 gone in July

    Last ones standing

    Gen 1 monster
    Sumo
    Arnie
    Spork

I think there is definitely scope for another 2 to go.

There’s precedent in SC. Current trend is to post what’s not for sale.
