    Movement bedding in ….

Never noticed this on other watches but when winding and screwing in the crown of my IWC mk xviii when I first got it it was almost gritty and clicking was audible. It was still a nice action but it surprised me. 7 days later having a play (with the crown….) and it’s buttery smooth with no clicking or gritty feeling at all. Is this normal?

Only other time I have noticed a difference is after a watch has been serviced.

Actually it might be a clutch mechanism stopping the movement from be over wound as it is now clicking again?

Dare I admit that I’ve never wound any of my autos? When I want to wear one that has stopped, I’ll wear it for a few hours until there’s some power reserve and then I’ll set it properly and wear it. No problem with winding manuals (obviously).
