Oxo tower on south bank is my first thought. Visit the Tate modern also for a bit of culture :)

Been there many times and never had a bad meal, ask for a balcony seat and you can peer over the Thames .
A request from my son and I've had a bit of a search, but am struggling to find any recommendations for a restaurant in central London with a city skyline view, other than the Shard which is an obvious suspect.
I'm not a particularly regular visitor to London, but I know there is a lot of knowledge on here so any suggestions would be gratefully received. TIA.

Avoid the one in the walkie talkie as it is rubbish overpriced tat. Another +1 for the Oxo.
City Social, expensive but great views. Especially from the gents.
Ages since we went for a drink but had some decent views from terrace http://www.coqdargent.co.uk/menus/
Not been in ages but Galvin at Windows was always a nice meal
Disappointed to see there are no double entendres in this thread.
On the subject of steak, I haven't eaten there but the bar next to The Globe is a decent place for a drink and you're near the Millennium footbridge with sightlines to St Paul's.
The view from the National Portrait Gallery restaurant is quite pleasing - you don't really know that it's there until you emerge from the lift.
In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.
Thanks guys, will do some googling when I get home ( totally useless on the phone as you can see).
Galvin at Windows nice but not as good as the La Chapelle branch IMO.
Have had a couple of nice meals at Searcys at the Gherkin and gives nice London views as well as the Gherkin architecture which I rather enjoy!
Duck and Waffle on Bishopsgate and Tower 42 restaurant on Broad Street have good City views. Both do steak

Not been to either for ages do can’t comment on the quality of their steaks I’m afraid
Thanks to all who contributed here, however after a bit of discussion, my lad decided he fancied a bit of chateaubriand and as we were near the Hawksmoor at Seven Dials we popped in and very nice it was too.
Next time maybe.
