Who will be the next JAMES BOND ???

Lets have a bit of fun, see if anyone gets this right

As per title, who do you think will be the next Bond?

I believe the actor will be:

    Male
    British
    Mid-30s
    Not currently a household name

    My money is on

    Good idea for a thread.

I have no idea but I did watch DC saying he had no idea either. It'll be interesting to see if anyone who's tipped actually makes it.

The only clue so far is Barbara Broccoli firmly saying James Bond is a male character

Cavill is a good shout but perhaps already overexposed. Hardy, on top of that, is just too old as he’d be like 47 by the next film. Same story goes for Elba, he’d be around 53.

I wonder if the film was steering us towards a future female Bond.

Sure there can be another James Bond, they've rebooted the story line before, no reason they can't do it again.

Not sure I agree with that ... James Bond as a person is dead (well at least that is what we are led to believe). I don't recall them every killing him off in previous movies, it was another actor playing the role. The 007 role rank is still open and I agree that can be filled but IMO it cannot be James Bond (even less so if 007 becomes a woman).

    This.

After watching it and coming away confused and thoroughly disappointed in the whole film and ending, then I would rather they just end the franchise now rather than changing it up to suit the the current social trends.

Some are suggesting another Aussie… Chris Hemsworth.

Right age at 38, but maybe a bit well-known? Did a decent English accent playing James Hunt, and kicked ass bigtime in Extraction.

I quite like the idea of Jamie Bell taking on the roll of 007. I also like the idea of a franchise reboot and setting the next film back in the 60s.

Marvel and DC have no problem making movies where one film doesnt relate to others, in the past. Spiderman, Joker, Hulk and so on have all done it.

The Craig era is over, the Bond stories will live on, and will continue to be told on screen.

Id like to see Cillian Murphy play Bond, in a different era like the 60s, itd hark back to some of the classic Bond films and give the franchise a reason to replace the entire cast.

I'll have to pass on Cillian Murphy but to "reboot" back to the 60's would be a great move, the books weren't full of gadgets and Bond was gritty - Craig captured that in Casino Royal.

For me, Cillian would be a great choice but I'd even take it back to 50's and follow the books closer.. so many great stories. Lot's of post war, Nazi type criminals to choose from.

On a side note.. I was thinking the other day, I like all the Bond actors but always their first film is best.. SC in Dr.No, GL in HMSS, RM in Live & Let Die, TD in Living Daylights (under appreciated imo), PB in Goldeneye and DC in Casino Royale (my favourite).

Whoever they choose they should have a serious re-think about what direction they want to take the character and storylines. It's completely out of date now - Fleming's character was a spy and the stories set during the Cold War. Some of the gadgets used in the early films were actually believable - i.e. the Swaine Adeney briefcase in FRWL. He was indeed a suave womaniser but had a human edge as well - he couldn't bring himself to kill someone in cold blood (read 'The Man with the Golden Gun' - final clash with Scaramanga) but nevertheless was able to kill without remorse when he had to. The storylines were all used up a long time ago - QoS and Octopussy were adapted short stories and many of the movie plots had little resemblance to the novels. The only recent film anywhere near the novel is Casino Royale - they kept in the same torture scene as in the book. I just found from then on (like many films nowdays) there were too many references to older JB movies because the scriptwriters just couldn't think of original storylines which were strong enough. I wouldn't be surprised if JB used his Omega, wrapped round his knuckles, to bludgeon someone to death as in OHMSS (the book).

I would love to see a new series of films set in the early 1950s with a new series of storylines. When the new JB is chosen and the next movie comes out I just hope there are fresh ideas on where to take the character and a good strong plot/storyline.

They've either chosen one of two things...decided to draw a line under the DC era and the next movie is not part of a series but a reboot or they've purposely set the series up to replace James Bond the person with 007 so that the gender or ethnicity thing can be done whilst still maintaining the series flow. I suspect it is the latter.

It's clear Bourne played a massive influence on this incarnation of Bond. I think this was part of the success in rescuing the series from the childrens' cartoon it had become with Die Another Day. That sunk to real depths both with the CGI, the ideas (Bond surfing a big cartoon wave, invisible cars etc) and Madonna!

Personally, I'd love a relatively unknown actor and see a return to a 50s/60s period piece, but I can't see it happening. The economic reality is Bond is about brand sponsorship and appeal to the masses to generate the largest box office figures possible. When they are competing with Marvel, it's not going to happen and I'm not sure a move to the Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy era is relatable enough for young audiences. Plus, in the last 60 years, Bond has always been set in the present and each movie has been a product of it's era. I can't see them changing that.

I also hope Nolan gets a go at directing because he manages big box office whilst being original/creative. He's a big Bond fan and has said he'd want to do one so maybe there is hope for that or maybe Tenet was him satisfying himself with the 'spy' genre.

This forum needs spoiler tags, so those of us who haven't seen the film yet don't stumble across them.

    Christian Bale.

Tbh though after DC's reboot which in parts I rate highly though clearly even with him in the role couldn't be sustained, I wouldn't mind/ care if they let it die, it's day is done.

Too late for Elba and Owen sadly. They'd both have been the perfect age at the time Craig got the gig.

DC probably the worst bond ever for me.

Give it to someone like Olly Alexander.

I think Craigs Bond movies have done the contemporary stuff - tech, cyber attacks, weapons etc to death. Id like to see the next Bond movie as an old school espionage period piece back in the 50s. With a good budget they can make amazing period shows now - just look at Mad Men. Bond in the 50/60s but with a modern budget and ideas would be amazing, rather than more of the same from the Craig era but with a different actor.

If I was writing the next script I could see a couple of ways around the issue of how to bring the character back.

It could be done by explaining that the name "James Bond" is one that multiple agents have had over the years, and is an assumed identity sanctioned by the Secret Service, or even a tradition.

Or, that the new incumbent takes that name for plot reasons, ie to pursuade nefarious actors that Bond is still alive and working for MI6, and decides to keep the name.

The second possibility would create less issues with the canon.

    Just a thought.

PS - the other option is to do a full reboot, and use my Jim Banana stories as source...

    Like Dr Who?

FWIW I think the whole thing has got very tired with very poor plotlines.

Like many others I think a 50's - '60's Bond would be in keeping with the original and far more interesting than some of the modern silliness.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

If you want that consistent over the whole series though it gets a bit problematic that he married Tracey Bond, with that written on the headstone. Also a bit weird that the secret services would want to identify their agents with the same assumed name. "Oh, Mr Bond you say? I know what you do for a living."

Thank God Jean Dujardin as OSS117 gave us an alternative through the dismal years of The Blond Scouser. Perhaps they should give the role to him. After all, anything continental’s better than everything British, isn’t it?

Whoever gets it next, as Algy said in Never Say Never Again, “Things have been awfully dull around here. I hope we're going to have some gratuitous sex and violence.”

Last time I checked Bond and his world was fiction, there doesn't have to be absolute logic!

IMO we're looking at it from a traditional sense, but the market now is truly global which needs lots of CGI and explosions to reach the billion dollar profits (I personally detest the DC/Marvel stuff). But hopefully the franchise can be kept like an 'indy' concept where the content trumps the box office revenue. Seems to be a lot of support here for a Cold War reboot, myself included, we can but hope it's a path the producers are seriously looking at.

As said, James Bond will return!

Something must have changed, last i heard Bond was dead / retired and a Lady 00 Agent was taking over

Granted, my second suggestion, that the new incumbent takes the name for plot reasons but decides or is compelled to keep it, may be more plausible.

My post was really just to give some examples of how it could be done as a plot device, there may be other ways also (but probably not he dived off the submarine base roof just in the nick of time...)

One way or another they will find a way to bring the character back - indeed they will have already decided how it can be done. James Bond is far too lucrative to ever really die.

I didn't stay to the end of the credits, but perhaps they still said "James Bond will return", because he will.

So clever my foot fell off.
