My post was really just to give some examples of how it could be done as a plot device, there may be other ways also (but probably not he dived off the submarine base roof just in the nick of time...)
One way or another they will find a way to bring the character back - indeed they will have already decided how it can be done. James Bond is far too lucrative to ever really die.

I'm not a fan of the endless DC/Marvel Universe either, but then I am not really the target market.
I do quite like the idea of a period piece set against the cold-war era, but I'm not sure how appealing this would be to new and younger audiences.
My sense, at the moment, is that they will look to up the action and grittiness still further, as that is what modern audiences tend to like, but whether it will continue to be a neverending timeless formula for success is another matter.
As others have pointed out, and I share their view, there is only really one very good Craig James Bond movie - Casino Royale. The rest have been inferior, some hugely so. Brosnan only really had one or two decent ones, Moore similarly. Connery's Bond was more consistent, but also had misfires. The only one who actually didn't really have a duffer was Dalton, but then he only did the two.
Looking across the entire Bond series, probably less than half are actually any much good, but that doesn't stop them being watchable in a kitsch kind of way.

I think the point is we all grew up with this nonsense, and deeply love it. It’s in our DNA! Astons, cheesy lines, exotic locations. Long live the King!

It is part of pop culture, and I for one would like a little less of the earnestness of Craig's movies, and a little more fun and humour.
Frankly, I found the Bond of No Time To Die to be pretty depressing - he was a middle aged man struggling with issues. I want to be like Bond, but not like that Bond - it's uncomfortable and too close to home!

Bridgerton, Downton Abbey, Peeky Blinders, Vikings , Stranger Things and many other period shows on Netflix seem to attract new and younger audiences. Bond films aren't really going after the Universal/PG market given their higher rating and more adult themes so I'd hope Babs Broccoli would be brave enough to try it. Nokia wouldn't be onboard mind you.

To be honest Craig had only 1 good film which was casino royale...
NTTD was a depressing cartoon ripoff of bond, Daniel Craig looks like the only man in the world who doesn't want to be James Bond!!!
I don't need continuity or character arcs for James bond, each mission could be today tomorrow or last year, I don't need him to get married or have children.
Unless the next reboot is carried out sensibly I would rather thats it for Bond and he stays dead..
Most actors like tom hardy and idris Elba etc are far too old already and by the the time the next film is out they will be ancient....
Bond is big business so he's definitely coming back but whether its an incarnation any of us want is a different matter.

Agree. They'll be looking for someone who can carry the series for a minimum of three films. With one movie every three years, thats a decade they'll want out of the actor, ideally more. Got to be looking 40 max.
Michael Fassbender is another I always wanted to see as JB, but he’s missed the boat too being 44 now.
The whole Daniel Craig era was a reboot. The first Craig film (Casino Royal in 2006) was set as his very first mission after being promoted to 007. There was no continuation from previous films. This would be no different IMO.

I think Tom Hiddlestone would make a good James Bond.
He played a great part in the 'Night Manager'.
I’ve always considered it a pity Rupert Everett never got his chance. Imagine how ahead of the times that would have been. I recall from his memoirs him claiming the producers “know I’d be perfect, but they’d rather stick pins in their eyes than cast me”.
I watched the film last night..really enjoyable, but I'm confused. If James Bond is dead how does another actor play him in a new movie, unless I guess they go back in time?
The movies aren’t sequential or totally in the same “universe” as each previous incarnation. If you remember the very start of Casino Royale, he had only just become 007 having completed his two kills, despite the movies that preceded it.
Either that or they’ve just decided to continue the 007 alias rather than the character James Bond and we get Jane Bond next time.
Hope it’s the former!

Casino Royale was the first book and the film copied it fairly accurately, nothing to do with "universes".

Back to the original thread title of who might be the next Bond, I would love to see Riz Ahmed in the role. He is an absolutely brilliant actor, the right kind of age at 38, smooth, charismatic, but has that hard edge Bond undoubtedly needs.
