EV charger cabling, internal routing options

The Tesla Model 3 performance is on track for a Q4 delivery, so I have had the local approved electricians round to look at installing a Tesla charger. I know there there are cheaper options, but it’s pretty!

The issue is my meter, fuse box etc is under the stairs, and the cable needs to route to an outside wall. There isn’t an underfloor space, or at least the downstairs floors look solid.

It looks like the cable would have to come out at the bottom of the stairs, then up along the side of the door as pictured then on top of the shelf to where it can then pass into a utility wall then out

    Options:
    1) Large black cable up the side of the door, but I can paint it

    2) Have it chased out so the vertical run is buried, then make good with plaster and repaint

I wish there was an easier way out! What would you do?

    Dave

I guess it’s Swa cable, put it in white plastic trunking where possible.

Trunking is pretty ugly. It’s ok crossing the utility room though

Ultimately, I would want the cable hidden but trunking would be my immediate option.

Same here the right trunking looks far better than cable whatever colour you paint it.

Are you in a semi? Any chance of getting it outside and going around the side of the house?

Personally don't think trunking looks any better than cable. Looks like an ugly solution for someone who can't be bothered to do a proper job and would always annoy me.

If you don't want to chase could you extend the door frame and enclose or somehow otherwise embed it in that.

I suppose recessing behind the architrave might be an option

Not ideal, but covering trunking with a layer of paper masking tape them painting to match the wall might help, especially if its against the architrave.

The cable is very thick and would look very ugly whether in trunking or not

Can you replace tour skirting with trunk shirting?

Do you have an external meter box that where you could split the incoming cable?

If its SWA then remember it doesnt have a great bend radius and thus you can't contour it around the architraves, corners etc like you for example with telephone cable.

Just something to bear in mind

I would double check the floor to make sure there isn't a void. It would be much easier and tidier if the SWA could be routed to the outside wall under the floor.
