I bought a watch yesterday and have just received confirmation it is en route to the authenticator. I’m strangely more nervous than I would be if it were to come straight to me!
Will be interesting to hear what they say with regards to condition. There were a few marks I spotted in the photos that weren’t mentioned in the description of the listing.
I’m about to go through this authentication process having just had an offer accepted on one fugly Panerai watch a 00088 GMT. Looking forward to seeing the reports. What on this earth was I thinking.
They don't open the cases to check the movement!? So what will happen if you receive a watch which has been authenticated as original by the so called ebay experts, but you pop it open and find out that is has the wrong or aftermarket movement, or even the wrong hands or dial?
You off course will want to return this and point out that its not original! Will you still be able to do this without clashing with their authentication report?
How many watch experts do they have working for them anyway? Hundreds or thousands?? You know how many high value watches are being sold on ebay every day. Its a lotttt of work checking these watches out in the proper way.
I think this whole authentication thing is rubbish
Chillax. :-)
RAJEN is only speculating. He assumed, as I did, that it would be unlikely that they'd open the watches to inspect the movements. But someone from the company told ralphy that they do inspect the movements (see ralphy's message above where he says what that person said).
Out of interest for anyone that has been through this process. Where do watches get shipped to for authentication? Mine is going to Ruislip, does that sound right?
Yep mine went to Ruislip, it was a bit of a wait for it to be delivered, about 7 days after it was authicated

A watch I bought arrived for authentication in the early hours of this morning and is heading back up to me via UPS for delivery tomorrow. Very prompt. I’m not sure how rigorous they will have checked it, based on the fact they have had it less than a day.
The tracking info on the 1 I bought and had authenticated on Friday still hasn’t updated since!
A guy on panerai group on Facebook has just posted he got a 111 ,which are regularly faked.
He received it back from eBay authentication centre and the back was loose ,so decided he take a look.
I’m not knowledgeable about movements but everyone is screaming fake ,someone stating it’s a seagull movement, some saying cheap Chinese.
He’s now in the process of sending it back ,see how eBay handle that .

Which Panerai group is this on Facebook?

Ignorance breeds Fear. Fear breeds Hatred. Hatred breeds Ignorance. Break the chain.
I’d be interested to know which Panerai group? I’m confident that what I have arriving is legitimate, as it has every single document and it’s only had 1 owner from new for the last 14 years. The watch I have has the quick release bars, I have never seen a fake with quick release bars.

Does anyone know if you can deliver by hand to the Authentication Centre in Ruislip.
I would be happy to drive down and have a look around.
My old school is about half a mile away.
Left the area about 30 years ago.
Also, if that centre gets to over capacity. I wonder if any others might spring up in the UK.
