Tankard needs to be almost horizontal as you start to gently pour (slowly) gradually lifting the tankard as the beer gets near the top.
    Perfect

Old pic, but I was wearing this yesterday, and for most of last week

    Best Regards - Peter

I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.

The trick I've discovered is always swill the tankard with some cold water before pouring the beer. You'll be amazed.

As an enthusiastic drinker of cider (the proper stuff, not the designer fizzy fruit-flavoured stuff in bottles at your local supermarket) may I make the point that pewter from years gone by can cause great harm and even death if used as a drinking vessel.
The comparatively high acidic content of cider can leach lead and cadmium from the pewter and do the drinker harm.
Modern pewter should be OK, but don't be tempted to purchase a Georgian tankard for your cider drinking.

Mind you; some of the cider that I had to drink in my impecunious past would render cadmium poisoning the least of your health worries!
