    Submariner bezel replacement

Hello, apologies if this has been covered before, had a large accident with a wall and my 2008 16610 while moving house.

The bezel insert is scratched and so is the outer bezel ring, any ideas what the replacement costs are and are they available?

It will be serviced at the same time

I think i paid £80+VAT for an insert replacement and got to keep the original (not sure about the outer as mine wasn't replaced). My crystal replacement was £200 so good job that wasn't damaged too!

    Thanks for that

Somehow the crystal seems to have survived

Hopefully the outer part of the bezel isn't overly expensive

Doesn't the 16610 bezel unit make the Rolex water tight if so probably expensive.

I hope not, the crunch it's taken it certainly won't be water tight now...

Be prepared to pay for a service as a condition of getting it repaired too.
    Cheers..

Not concerned about the service as it's overdue anyway and this has given me the kick to get it done

No, it just pops off, there's no seal underneath it

The waterproofness comes from the crystal being inserted into the midcase from the rear, IIRC

I think that with a service you will be looking at the best part of £1000 if you opt for the RSC. It is a not insubstantial amount but with 16610s now commanding over £8,000 on the second-hand market then well worth the cost to get it back up and running. Great watch and hope you continue to enjoy it for many more years to come.

I had the bezel and insert replaced on mine 10 years ago by Russell Tallerman without a service and at that point it was £280 so I imagine it is a fair bit more now.

If you do go down the RSC route it would be good to know if they let you keep the original insert. I could do with one of mine replacing but feel I might regret it someday as the original has a bit of character

Phonecall to RSC this morning service is £600 including vat.

New bezel insert and outer bezel is £150 plus vat

Bezel and insert price is more reasonable than I thought it would be. Was the service mandatory?

To be honest I didn't ask as it needs a service anyway

Makes sense! Mine was done by an independent 18 months ago and is +1 second per day so want to avoid it if possible

I believe if you can take it into RSC in London they will change the bezel insert if they have one in stock without servicing.
Just going off stories I've heard so could all be tosh or outdated now...

Cheers, I heard that somewhere too but it was a good while ago. I know a friend of mine had to have his serviced when they replaced his 16710 crystal

Rang RSC back they can replace the bezel insert while you wait but they will inspect the watch to see if they deem it needs servicing

They can't change the outer ring without booking in and takes a few days, but again will do without servicing if they deem the watch to be ok...

They have to take the bezel off to replace the insert so I don’t know why they need a couple of days to replace the bezel.

Correct. Do you think we will ever reach a point where Rolex will accept they no longer own the watch? And maybe do what the current owner and bill payer asks?

It’s not like they’re doing the work or selling the parts for free.

I can confirm this is correct, they changed my insert and provided me with a jubilee bracelet for mu 16710 on the spot while I waited

Would be interesting to see a pic of the damage. I don't know why, ghoulish perhaps. I slow down to look at road crashes as well. :-)

Am I right that the bezel and insert are £150.. that sounds good. I have a 1680 that could do with a new bezel, not the insert. Any one any idea of what the cost be for a replacement bezel?

  28. #28
Does anyone know if the ceramic inserts can easily be removed from the bezel?

One mans ‘damage’ is another mans ‘character’.

I still prefer to see the old beat up 4 and 5 digit watches that have really been used, than the stickered up insta efforts.
