    Squid Game

On Netflix now, well worth a watch this one! Strange South Korean dystopian/sci-fi/horror/thriller. We started it last night, three episodes in now.

It's a weird and pretty disturbing series, reminds me an awful lot of Battle Royale where the school kids are dumped on an island and forced to fight to "last man standing".
The dubbing/voiceover is a bit crap, I'd have much preferred subtitles (like Battle Royale), but it's not a deal-breaker and I'll stick with this to the end.

Anyone else on it? It's on the Netflix "must watch" list so I'm guessing plenty of people will have spotted it.

Im enjoying this so far. Have you seen Alice In Borderland? Which I think is still the best in the same mode as Squid Game but the games being more twisted. I am watching it with subtitles though on Netflix so that is an option. I cant stand dubbed foreign films/series.

Thanks Kev, will check this out.

If anyone likes dark, anarchic comedy, Archer is worth a watch.

Started it last night but I fell asleep during the first episode. The wife was enjoying it though so we’ll probably see it through!

Also check out love, death and robots. Short animated tales, dark, sometimes macabre and generally very good.

Finished it last night, really enjoyed it, added a post mentioning it to the 'Any good New TV Series worth watching' thread last night.
Dubbing was pretty bad, but i struggle with marathon subtitle sessions.

Archer is superb. I’ve just starting watching from season 1 again. One good thing about getting old is you can’t remember much so it’s like first time for me!!

    Cheers, Shaun

Just started with Squid Game. Wow.

I wonder where this is going...?

Love Squid Game, couldn’t wait to watch the next one, very gripping series that is well filmed and acted in a South Korean way!!

Just watched Ep 8, thinking it was the last episode, and I feel like I've climbed a flight of steps and missed the top one!

    Squid Game

We finished watching it last week, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Started watching Alice in Borderland after completing Squid Game as that was recommended but gave up on it after the 3rd episode.

Worthy of the hype with a good twist ending.

Not sure how you’re watching it but the default on Netflix is the original Korean with English subtitles. Have you checked your settings?

    It's trash television.

In the best possible way. Absolutely love it and actually I find that the US English voice dubbing adds to the charm; there's a sort of corny naivety about it sometimes that enhances the '70s exploitation movie schtick. Very dark comedy and the 'Fly Me To The Moon' sequence was just inspired. I'm three episodes in, will revisit this thread once I've got through all nine.

Episode 3 is where it really comes alive, I absolutely loved it after that surprise ending - definitely did not expect that! It gets really good, I'd see out the last few episodes if you get chance or find yourself stuck for something to watch.

We watched it on Netflix and the default was dubbed English.

I much prefer the original language with subtitles on anything we watch.

First episode was a bit slow but stick with it! As others have mentioned much preferred it with subtitles rather than the cheesy dubbing

Not for me. Watching it on Netflix, up to episode 5 and only just noticed it’s available dubbed in English.
Tried, but gone back to Korean, far better.

I finished it yesterday and it had subtitles. I quite enjoyed it but was disappointed by the inevitable ending to set up season 2.

Enjoying the series here too after starting watching it last week - onto ep 8 now. Brings out all sorts of emotions watching this. Also, I much prefer subtitles than dubbed version.

Absolutely ridiculous TV but I really enjoyed it and definitely didn't see the twist coming.

The producer is apparently really reluctant to do a 2nd series but inevitably Netflix, given it's now the most watched show in any language on the service, will make it impossible to say no.
Seems like there's only one route for it to go down too. A bit like Hunger Games, you can't have Squid Game without Squid Game!

I found it quite entertaining. My daughter put us onto it off the back of it being big on TikTok (apparently).

I hadn’t picked up on Alice in Borderland. May well give that a try.

Did read that the old man never had a padlock on his cuffs when he was chained to the tug of war rope….guaranteeing he wouldn’t die if they lost that game…

Suggest that anyone who enjoyed this gets watching Alice in Borderland too.

It is good, but not as addictive; although an interesting change in the latest episode.

This is a good idea - I got 10 minutes into the first episode and gave up because I couldn't cope with the rubbish dubbing from the cheap voiceover artists. I'm not sure I'm going to bother though...I usually find these series that you jump on the bandwagon because of the hype a complete let down. Once the hype of Westworld went, looking back it was very mediocre and just got worse and worse.
