Thanks for the heads up.
I'd have expected it to go for more than that. Will be interesting to see.
I notice that one of the signatories is Neville Duke, the fighter pilot and test pilot. I'd like the menu for that name alone.
I thought that some here might be interested in this: Dominic Winter Book Auction, October 6, Lot 18. A dinner menu signed by 10 members of the Everest expedition (including Hillary). The dinner was hosted by Smiths English Clocks Ltd. Estimate is £200 - 300.
Thanks for the heads up.

Based on my experience with Dominic Winter the estimates are usually very conservative - I too think it will go for a lot more.
Thanks, it will be interesting to follow.

Pleasing to see this in the description:
Both Smiths and Rolex gave watches to the Expedition members hoping that their watches would make it to the summit and gain massive publicity and sales as a result. Both companies claimed that their watches had reached the summit but it is now held that Hillary had a Smiths watch when they planted the flag and that no Rolex was at the top that day.

Good to see the forum righting horological wrongs and the truth being adopted across the net.
Some of you on this thread need a superhero outfit.
Possibly constructed from Natos.
I've tipped off the relevant person and hopefully this will be bought by him and displayed alongside Hillary's watch in the museum.
A fitting home I think.
We'll see!
Bloody internet....lol, that is in my favourite local auction house and I had designs on it. If there is a representative going to be bidding that means it's destiny is alongside Hillary's watch I shall not compete. Are you sure they will be bidding Ollie?
The posters on this thread are responsible for many of my favourite posts on TZ.
Not enough is said in defence of rational discussion from a strong ethical position. Thank you for remaining calm when many others have bickered.
Right, back to the auction...
Reminder: This auction is tomorrow.
It's a very 1950s bill of fare, you can see the influence of Elizabeth David and the almost-post-rationing attempts at Continental cuisine.
I thought it might make a bit more - hope it’s gone to a good home.
