Love a manual wind movement / display casebook combo. A rich green or blue coloured dial and I would be first in line to pick one up!
Damn, GS does it again. Hard to see in the photos but the black (dark brown apparently?) one has the linen dial texture too, looking forward to seeing these in person.
At around £4K this post could prove expensive, but also solve the tricky (slightly more rugged Calatrava style) dress watch problem.
Manual winding and 30m WR....it should be sub 10mm thickness, IMO.
However sub 10mm thick would put some of us off it so horses for courses.
They are winners. Fills a gap in the market for nice finished dress watch under 5k.
Nice details, but shares what I think is the Achilles heel of the SBGW231, which is unreasonable thickness for a manually wound watch

For reference the Patek Philippe 5196G is the same width and 7.68mm thick - 4mm less. The job of this watch IMO is to offer a more affordable alternative to the PP - or at least for me it is.
I had a SBRG061 which was 13.1mm thick and this is 1.5mm thinner. As I didn't find the SBRG061 too thick, and bearing in mind it appears these have a raised box crystal which add a retro flavour but also probably accounts for some of the thickness as a result then I don't think these are bad at all. This is more of an everyday dress watch where a bit more substance is expected.
I'd imagine with discounts between 10-20% likely available then this at £3.3k -£3.6k or so is an absolutely compelling buy and I'm not sure what else competes as effectively.
A bit more of the brown in what otherwise appeared black from here. Certainly one to see in person but there could be something deliciously dark chocolate about this one.
I do feel GS have really started to hit their straps in the last year or so. The designs are consistently confident and self-assured, remaining true to the GS aesthetic without the need to be too attention-seeking, and these releases are another good example.
For this watch style, I think 37.5mm will be the perfect size for many wrists. Although seemingly not too different from the 'standard' 36mm, the impact on the dial area is to increase it by ~7%, which is significant. Given the box crystal, I imagine the watch will look and wear more like one that's 10-10.5mm high. Again, close to perfect, given the other proportions. Personally, would love to have seen a power reserve on the back and, for its practicality, a date window (preferably at 6 o'clock), although I'm sure many wouldn't agree with the latter. Looking forward to seeing them in the flesh in Oct.
Down the line, it would be great to see some more playful / sporty dial colours as there's no need for these to remain primarily dress watches. GS already do lovely porcelain dials in their Presage range and they could work really well here.
